〰️〰️〰️

Eva and Reiner walked back to the bonfire in comfortable silence.

As they sat down, all eyes were on them. Mikasa moved to her side, glaring at the blonde guy with a look that would intimidate a Titan.

"We are good, guys" Reiner assured the group. "Nothing happened... Not that I remember. Evie?"

"I don't know what you are talking about," she confirmed, smiling thankfully at him.

"What the fu-!?" Eren went to protest, enraged.

"EREN!" Eva warned him —pleading with her eyes that he would shut up.

If Reiner didn't let the situation go, she could be in serious trouble. Reiner would be disciplined for punching Eren, but she had threatened his life. There was no way to anticipate what could happen to her.

Eren seemed to understand what her sister's glare meant, and thus remained silent.

Everybody around them exchanged confused looks, but they understood the unspoken agreement they had come to.

Soon enough, the instructors announced it was time to sleep. The bonfire was put out, and everybody retired to their tents for the night.

When Eva thought everybody was already sleeping, she sneaked out. But she was wrong. Not everybody was in their tents.

"Where do you think you are going?" Levi's voice questioned.

Eva turned around to look at him, who was now mere centimeters away from her.

"To Mikasa's tent, sir" she quickly spoke, in a low voice.

"Levi" he corrected her.

"Levi" she repeated, blushing slightly at the use of his name.

"Who is Mikasa?"

"Cadet Mikasa Ackerman... she my sister."

"Sister? I thought your last name was Jaeger" he frowned slightly.

"My definition of family is... flexible" she smiled, "Eren's parents adopted me and Mikasa when we were kids."

He nodded, and then asked softly "where they good to you?"

"Yeah" she replied, memories of Carla and Grisha flying through her mind. "They were great to me."

"I am glad, brat" he almost smiled. "And your birth parents?"

"I have no clue about my father..." she hesitated "my mom died when I was about five or so."

"And the Jaegers took you then" he jumped to the conclusion. "Where they neighbours or something?"

"Something like that."

Levi knew she wasn't telling all the truth. He so desperately wanted to know more about her — yet he didn't want to pressure her.

"You are lying again, brat" he shook his head.

She looked down, with a sad smile spreading across her features, admiting her defeat.

His hand moved to carefully lift her head up, so that she would be looking at him. His eyes told her that he didn't mind the lie, relieving her instantly, and allowing her lips to curl upwards.

He couldn't resist it, and softly placed a lock of her hair behind her ear, caresing the side of her face. Eva closed her eyes as to fully enjoy the contact of their skins.

She looks just fucking gorgeous under the moonlight.

After a moment of silence, just enjoying being with one another, she dared to speak again. "Levi?"
