"Hands upon your hearts!" Commander Sadies commanded.
"Yes sir!"
The 104th promotion of the Cadet Corps saluted, bringing one hand to their hearts and the other behind their backs in perfect sync.
"As of this moment, you trainees graduating today have three options. You can be stationed at the Walls and defend the cities as members of the Garrison. You can put your lives on the line to fight the titans in their own territory as members of the Survey Corps. And you can serve the King by controlling the crowds and protecting the order as members of the Military Police!"
"Of course, only the ten people with top scores are allowed into the Military Police. The rest of you, take a look. These are the top of your class.
On 10th place, cadet Sasha Braus! On 9th place, Cadet Connie Springer! On 8th place, cadet Marco Bott! On 7th place, cadet Jean Kirstein!"
YES! Eren will be higher than Jean! Thank the Godessess or we wouldn't have heard the end of it!
"On 6th place, cadet Eren Jaeger!"
Eva clapped and cheered specially loud for her brother "Wohoooo! Good job Eren!!"
"On 5th place, cadet Annie Leonhart! On 4th place, cadet Bertold Hoover! On 3rd place, cadet Reiner Braun!"
"Awesome Reineeer!" she cheered, making him blush at her sudden display.
"On 2nd place, cadet Mikasa Ackerman!"
"THAT IS MY SISTER EVERYBODY!" Eva's hands were starting to hurt due to all the clapping.
But wait, if Mi is second... how is first!? Armin!?
"At the top of the 104th Cadet Corps Class! Cadet Eva Jaeger!"
Eva stopped clapping immediately, suddenly feeling very very shy and awkward. She did not like to receive this kind of attention. Any attention, for that matter.
Sadies cleared his throat. "Jaeger, there is an award. You have to take it. Come up here!"
Eva's whole body was in tension, looking around her as her fellow classmates cheered. She felt like she was floating, like the situation was not real.
It felt absurd. She did not follow orders well, why was she at the top of her class?
She was a street thug, not a soldier. More importantly, she wasn't even an actual citizen. She could be sentenced to death for this.
It all felt wrong. She felt completely out of place standing in front of everybody and receiving an award.
After the ceremony was over, the cadets walked to the dinning hall, ready to indulge in a night of eating and drinking. They deserved it.
"What happened to you up there, Evie?" Sasha asked as they walked around Trost.
"You looked constipated or something" Connie snickered, making Sasha smack his forehead.
"I don't know... I just felt so out of place" she sincerely explained her friends.
"Are you stupid!?" Eren pestered.
"Are you!?" she retorted.
"Come on Evie!" her brother continued, "it was obvious that you were going to be the top of the class! Everybody was expecting it!"
"Everybody except me..."
"What!?" Sasha interlaced her arm around Eva's and started hopping around rather idiotically, in an attempt to cheer her friend up.
