It had been hours since Clay saw the fight between Peril and the sandwing named Horizon. Though the fight had turned his stomach he was now hungry and regretted not eating that charred rabbit Peril had brought him.

He was brought out of his thoughts by a burnt bird falling onto his spire. Quickly he grabbed it and began eating it ignoring the charred taste.

"Oh, good, now you're hungry! Woah...." Peril said seeing how quickly the mudwing finished the bird she had brought him. When he was done he looked at Peril as she landed on the edge.

"It's ok! I'll stay really still, i promise. Do you want another one?" She asked and he shook his head. Sure he was still hungry but he could barely handle the charred taste.

"I'm alright." He said and she looked away a little.

"Do you want me to go away?" She asked and he looked at her.

"No. Stay and talk to me." He said and she looked back at him a bit surprised.

"Arent you afraid of me?" She asked and he nodded.

"Of course i am. But you're still better company than the pigeons. All they want to talk about is who to poop on." He said and Peril laughed but it sounded so odd that Clay thought something was wrong with her.

"Are-are you all right?" He asked and she stopped laughing.

"Uh? I-......that was weird today. The sandwing- he just gave up. Why would he do that? Her Majesty was angry." She said as she looked down.

"Angry at you? That doesnt seam fair." Clay said making her look at him.

"It doesn't? No, the queen is right. It's my responsibility to make the fight exciting." She said as Clay shifted his weight a little.

"Why do you do what she says? Do you- like fighting?" He asked and she lifted her head a little.

"Of course. Im good at fighting. Scarlet's my queen. I'm her champion." She said and Clay tilted his head a bit.

"Why you?" He asked curiously.

"No one else would want me. No one can even touch me. I was born with too much fire. Usually, they kill dragons like me. My mother was about to snap my neck when Queen Scarlet killed her." She said and Clay was a bit surprised.

"Wow." Was all that he could say and Peril looked at the sky.

"If you want to know everything, i burned up my twin in our egg. I sucked out his fire and burned him to a crisp. I've been a killer since before I hatched." She said and Clay looked down.

"I tried to kill the other eggs in my nest. First thing, as soon as i hatched." He said and she gave him a soft look before looking away again.

"So maybe we we're both born to be killers." She said quietly and Clay frowned.

"I hope that's not who I am." He said thinking of his friends. Peril looked at him a bit worried making Clay struggle to correct what he had said.

"Not- not- that- I mean- maybe i was born that way...but does that mean I'm like that forever? I guess I hope i have a choice, is all. I want to be who i want to ne. Not who i have to be. Right?" He said and she looked at the sky again.

"Her Majesty says i must follow my true nature." She said seriously.

"Don't you ever wonder-wouldn't you want to be different? If you could?" Clay asked making her glance at him.

"No. I've accepted myself, anf I like who i am. I should go." She said opening her wings away from Clay so she didnt burn him.

"Wait! Tell Scarlet not to make Starflight fight tomorrow. He's not ready." He said in a hurry as she took to the air.

"I can try, but she's pretty excited to see him in the arena." She said as she hovered in place.

"Tell her to send me in instead." He said seriously. This caused Peril to frown.

"You wouldn't kill yourself like that, would you? The way Horizon did?" She asked and he shook his head.

"I dont think so." Clay said and she smiled.

"Oh, good. I'd much rather kill you fair and square. Good night!" She said as she flew off leaving Clay with his thoughts.

Back in the cell with the icewings Frostburn was learning more about her father's tribe and what he was like before he ran off.

"So....he was actually a pretty strong dragon? One of Queen Glacier's best guards....but his love for my mom was more important." She said with a soft smile. Fjord chuckled at her as he moved his tail a little.

"You seam like a pretty nice dragonet. Im just sorry you ended up here. Scarlet has an extreme hate for icewings. Let alone one that's a hybrid daughter of one of her subjects." He said making the others look at her.

"You know....she kind of looks like that female guard who actually treats us like dragons. What was her name.....Almandine." One said and the others nodded.

"Almandine.....so she is actually nice to all of you?" She asked and Fjord hummed.

"Well now I guess we know why she is so kind to us.

"I honestly thought that my mother was dead.....i mean she never came to find me. Im sure my father would have told her where the talons were staying to raise the dragonets of destiny." She said then jumped as a guard came to the cell and froze.

"An icewing and skywing hybrid.....tell me little one do you know you parents?" She asked her dark but some how gleaming scales reflecting some of the light from the torches.

"Almandine this is Hvitur's daughter. I'm.sure you know who he was." Fjord said and she crouched down to put her snout at Frostburn's height.

"Oh moons....." Almandine said then stood up and walked off rather quickly leaving the icewings confused.

"We'll....that was an odd little experience." One of the Icewings said. She was quite large and nearly pure white.

"Yeah....do you really think she might be my mother?" Frostburn asked as she looked at the icewings. They each nodded making her look at the floor.
