♡ Alaiya's POV: ♡
"Everyone, get with your partners," Mrs.Lambert instructs after we finish warming up.
We've been practicing this dance for weeks, and I am so thankful that Carson has football practice during this class. If he only saw me dancing with a guy, I'd never live it down.
The dance starts as a slow waltz and very romantically, it switches right when the audience gets comfortable to a faster-paced tango. The switch from the waltz is where everyone has been messing up. Dylan walks up to me with his usual smile and inviting hand. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met and also a great dancer. His mixed skin tone illuminates the room and his skinny, yet muscular body is the reason why I haven't fallen on my butt yet. Yet.
"Dylan and Alaiya," Mrs. Lambert commands for us to start, and we nod.
I look over and see Ivy looking intently over at me, and it's still kind of weird for me to remember that someone came to my rehearsals. I wouldn't want Carson to come anyway because of Dylan, but he also doesn't find much interest in dance. He's more of a ball-sport kind of guy and thinks that watching people dance is boring in his opinion. I get it. Football doesn't make much sense to me either, so I can't judge him for not liking my hobby if I don't find much interest in his.
"Remember, foot, step, and then intense look," she repeats the part we've been messing up on.
Dylan and I both stand spaced apart as the other duos stand behind us even more spread out in their positions. The plot of the dance is that we're all meeting our love interests for the first time. Dylan and I are kind of like a magnetic pulse for everyone else, and as we continue to dance slowly, the others slowly find their loves as well.
Riley and Sammy are the two girls who are finding their loves; Chris and Nathaniel who are also at a good distance between them. Then there are the other couples who are just swaying around and acting like the boring people in the story, though without them, this dance wouldn't looks as aesthetic as it's supposed to so they're still very important.
Dylan grabs my waist next, and we both begin to slowly waltz by taking a step forward, back, and side to side. The violin hits a creek, meaning that the couple have touched, giving us the signal for all three couples to look into each other's eyes. The guys' hands slowly rub past the girls cheeks, and when they go a little further down to our sides, the bow of the violin is screeched up fast, and the music speeds up. As soon as it does, Dylan lets me swing back as I twirl around with his hand in mine, and when the violin hits one more creek, I'm pulled forcefully back with another spin.
We both smile at each other.
Mrs Lambert was very clear on facial expressions, so there's a way we're supposed to look the entire time.
Our feet begin to move into the tango and we all begin to have fun with it which is also something that's in our directions. It kind of turns into a fun and comfortable feeling, and it's glorifying the way love can change one so much from when they met, to when they realize they love the other person.
He spins me around to the left side with my finger, and as we hold the distance with our hands still in one another's. When Dylan spins me around again, my back hits his chest instantly. My hand goes behind my head and strokes his face as his hands go down my waist lightly and grip onto my sides. All three girls are spun around, and it's now our turn to show the men that we're in control because of the time this dance is set in.
We pretend as if we whispered something in their ears and left them speechless, though in reality, we just moved our mouths as we're nervous for our solo.
