Sophia
It was six in the morning, and I was watching my brother suck on Lily's face. Tommy had the same expressions I had on my face: boredom and disgust. Ever since last Saturday, they've been inseparable and even during the Alpha Ceremony for my brother she was stuck to his side the whole time.
I was a little hurt by her being next to him instead of being with me, but I understood why. They're mates, they're supposed to be together, but they didn't have to kiss each other every ten seconds. I mean, seriously, we were about to leave for school.
I cleared my throat to catch their attention, which didn't work. "Well then, Tommy and I will go get breakfast in town, and you two can join us whenever you're done doing...that."
They still seemed to ignore me, so I took Tommy's hand and dragged him to my car. I was feeling bored and I wanted more food than what I was given this morning. Apparently two eggs, five pieces of bacon, and a slice of buttered toast wasn't enough for me.
"What do you want to eat?" I asked Tommy once he closed his door.
"Um, I'm not that hungry," he said quietly.
"Tommy," I said seriously, glaring at him. He froze and stared at me with scared eyes. "I asked what you wanted to eat."
"Perkins is good," Tommy quickly said.
I nodded and started up my vehicle. I drove out of the long driveway of our house and past all the trees in our forest. Tommy didn't talk, and I somewhat wished he would, yet at the same time I was glad for the silence. One we reached the end of the forest and entered the edge of the town, Tommy broke our silence.
"Are you mad that Charlie found his mate?"
I looked at him for a second before I looked back at the road. "No."
"Then why are you so annoyed with him?"
"Because we aren't doing anything fun now, all he does is make out with my best friend."
"So...you're jealous!" Tommy shouted happily, like he found out a secret.
I laughed. "No, I'm not jealous. I'm happy for them, really happy for them, but enough is enough when it comes to making out in front of your siblings."
Tommy shrugged. "Maybe you'll think differently when you find a mate."
I sighed heavily, not really wanting to tell Tommy what I thought about me and a mate. I never told anyone, not even mom or dad, who I tell everything to, especially when it comes to stuff I like this. Tommy, though, wanted to know what was on my mind.
"What is it?" he asked.
"I don't think I have a mate."
He smiled. "Not yet."
"Well I mean not ever."
His smiled faded and he stared at me with surprised eyes. "Why would you think that?"
I sighed. "Well, I don't have a wolf, so I guess I can't have a mate."
He suddenly slapped my shoulder really hard.
"Ow!"
"Listen! Mom is human and dad was her mate. There was obviously some sort of connection, so don't you dare think that you don't have a mate out there!"
"Tommy, mom was different! She was actually a human! I half human, half werewolf...which might actually make me three fourths human and one fourth wolf. So I don't even know what I am!"
Tommy was silent as he pouted in his seat. I pulled into the Perkins parking lot and turned the car off. I closed my eyes and put my forehead on the steering wheel while I took deep breaths. Maybe Tommy was right. Maybe I was jealous of Charlie and Lily. I guess I thought it would just be me and him forever and I wouldn't have to put anyone before my family.
