Ashton appeared, leaned against the locker next to mine, as I slammed the metal door closed.

"Why have you been ignoring me?" He tilted his head to the side and I quickly turned the opposite direction and paced.

"Josie!" He called after me, the sound of scuffing shoes following through the crowd of students.

His long fingers held a grip on my elbow as he turned me around.

"What." I snapped.

"What's wrong?"

"What the hell do you mean by that? You left me, Ashton, when you said you'd take me home, you left me. So thanks for nothing." I turned away once again, preparing to leave the boy behind, before he grabbed my forearm and pulled me back again.

"What about that second chance..." His eyes full of hope as the statement lingered between us.

My eyes watered, they began to soak the only image I could imagine, and every time I looked at him, I saw him turning away from me, leaving me.

"Ashton, I gave you that second chance and you blew it. If I can't trust you two times, I can't trust you again." And I finally turned away, freed, until Luke's chest shortly blocked my way from Ashton.

"What's the problem here." Luke tried to buck up.

"Oh god." I mumbled to myself.

"He bothering you?"

"Let's leave before you do something you'll regret." I laughed as I turned him around and pushed his back down the opposite hallway.

"You're an idiot. I had it under control."

"Clearly." I looked up and smiled and he smiled back down at me. Then the conversation was empty. I didn't know if I should bring up what happened. Maybe he should be the first. I didn't know if he was thinking the same thing, I hoped he would just start the topic so we could have this discussion over with.

"Look, Josie, about what happened. I just want you to know I really care about you and I'll always be here for you, okay?" I nodded.

He said it perfectly. Luke truly knew how to please me. And make me happy. I am happier and healthier with Luke than I was ever with Ashton.

"I'll see you tomorrow?" I nodded once more before he leaned to kiss my cheek and walked towards the exit at the parking lot.

I joined my spot in the grass where I had sat waiting for Ashton, and I picked at the stems that grew back from the last time.

Claire didn't get off work for another twenty minutes which means that I have to continue waiting in the crisp air. Most of the students already gone have me little hope. Schools seemed so scary and empty when it's only you and two other kids. Especially when you're spread and they make it obvious they don't want to talk to you.

I began to walk around the school, kicking rocks along my path, one began to stumble down the small hill to the back of the school and I chased after it, finding it the most entertaining thing that has happened in the last hour.

I dribbled the rock between my feet and saw a small car drive up in my peripheral vision. Quick steps followed after the car stopped. I only became concerned when the sound of feet made the noise in my direction, once I looked up, I was being chased.

I ran in the opposite direction, attempting to run back in front of the two in front of the school. I wanted to scream, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Too much adrenaline. Too much pressure. Too much fright.

My ankle was yanked and my body collapsed. I was dragged along the dry grass before being picked up and thrown over the shoulder, bouncing as the man ran. I fisted his shirt and finally screamed.

My yelling made him angry as he placed me on the pavement in front of him. My hands swung in circles around his face, but he tangled my wrists before I could come in contact with his face.

"Feisty." He smirked.

"Let me go, you prick." He tilted his head back in laughter.

"Ashton was right, you are cute."

"Ashton?" My brain couldn't stop my mouth before I spoke. And I quickly felt a cushion beneath me.
