I'm sorry for this...!
Happy reading
Percy
I would rather fall through Tartarus again then do this. At least she was there with me in Tartarus. At least she was alive.
Oh Gods, it hurts.
Shakily, I stood up from the bench where I was sat. From beside me, Thalia squeezed my hand. I looked down at her and shook my head,
"I can't do it, Thals," I whispered, "I can't,"
The corners of her mouth tugged down,
"Me neither," She admitted. After a short silence, she said, "Together?"
I nodded vigorously and we made our way up to the stand. I cleared my throat as best I could with out bursting into tears,
"Annabeth Chase, was my best friend," I began, "She was smart and strong and I don't think I'd be here today if it weren't for her. She helped me so much when I needed it, and I regret it so much that I couldn't be there when she needed me.
"She was one of the only people that I could tell everything to, but the one thing I never got to say was goodbye. So, goodbye Annabeth Chase. I hope that you are happy down there in Elysium and I can't wait to see you again.
"You may not count it for anything, but I would have wanted you to know that you did build something permanent - aside from Olympus, of course. I love you so much - now and forever," I finished, my voice breaking. I looked at Thalia, who was behind me and she smiled supportively.
Thalia
I had to choke back a sob as Percy finished his speech. He looked back at me and I plastered a smile to my face. He looked down at his hands and shakily walked back to his seat, while I followed closely behind.
When I took my seat, Reyna - who was sat next to me - held my hand. I looked at her and glanced back at Percy. Reyna nodded. She seemed to understand. When Percy had given his speech, he had spoken as if Annabeth Chase was still alive.
I rested my head on Reyna's shoulder and watched as the slide show swiped from photo to photo. Sometimes I was there, and Grover and Luke. Percy was in most of them.
What didn't help was everyone looking at him every twenty seconds to get his reaction.
After the funeral, I walked up to him,
"Hey Perce," I said softly, "You okay?"
Percy scowled at me,
"Come on, Pine cone face, talk to me like a normal person," I managed a half smile,
"Shut up Kelp head. Why, in your speech, were you talking to Annabeth like she was still alive?" Percy's face dropped.
"She'll always be alive, Thals. Always with me," He breathed. I frowned,
"What do you mean?" I asked slowly,
"Don't worry about it. Just... something permanent," And he walked away, smiling as a single tear rolled down his cheek.
