He'd heard her question as he'd walked into the room. The glances shared by the guys gave him an idea that they probably wouldn't answer so he took the responsibility on himself.
Owen refrained from rolling his eyes at their nervousness, he knew she was good at what she did in the academy. He just didn't know what it was she did, "miss.. Violet, after your mission last night, the boys brought you back to ours to get some medical attention as there were supposed rules against hospital visits. We didn't check you over fully as you couldn't consent in your state, however, it is safe to assume you have multiple bruised or even cracked ribs. It would help greatly if you let Sean look over your wounds now."
"Actually, Owen, I'm fine as is. If necessary I can and will examine myself however I don't think it's a great idea to have anyone else touch me right now, no? Thank you Dr. Green for last night," she winked at said man, "but I think it's time for me to go."
"Vi, how do we, y'know? Fill in the report? And what if we did want to work with you again?" North asked roughly.
"You," Violet gestured to the men she knew, "can get my number of the handsome doctor. The report will be done by me, later. And you guys don't even know enough about me or my skills to work with me again."
"we'd like to," he cut in. "work with you again, that is. If o- Mr blackbourne has a look at your files then we can assess your skills and ways to team up in the future."
She looked at him strangely. Waiting for something to click. What was she waiting for? It made no sense unless maybe he couldn't do that for some reason.
He caught Violets eye and they stared at eachother. An awkward tension rose through the room.
Owen fought again from glaring at the older Taylor brother as he heard the quiet whisper from behind him, "here, in their natural habitats, we have an alpha male competing against an alpha female. This challenge could lead to disastrous outcomes for our group. Who is right?"
Gabe snickered from next to him and he could see Violets stoic expression flicker into one holding amusement for a moment before continuing to look at him with a blank face.
" I don't know if you've realised but what I do within the academy isn't usually.. broadcasted. Unless I know and trust you, you boys won't be seeing what I do. That goes with Phil's trust as well. He's important to me and I trust him enough for his judgement."
"so, what I'm hearing is if we get Phil to vouch that we are good, trustworthy people, you'll let us see what you do that's so super secret?"
She looked at the man weirdly, Owen could match her confusion. Why were they so interested? Out of the fourteen of them, less than half had met her prior to today but they seemed taken by her. "I guess that's what I'm saying, yeah? If we'll work together you guys would have to know about my jobs and general capabilities. I just doubt Phil trusts you that much to actually consent for any footage to be shared?"
Sean perked up considerably, "pumpkin, what general area do you expertise lie? Grumpy and Grumpier seemed impressed by something but won't tell us anything."
He was clever. Considering the boundaries she'd set and not overstepping but trying to wiggle information from beneath her. Something told Owen she was much smarter than they gave her credit for.
The men had ended their quiet conversations choosing instead to state at the woman who had risen from her seat, stretching her arms upwards uncomfortably.
"hey could I borrow a shirt and take a shower or something? Call Phil if you want, he'll say no and we can move on." she spoke lazily, as though she knew she wouldn't have permission from him.
Victor pointed her towards the stairs as he explained directions to a spare bedroom and bathroom, telling her she could just choose some clothes from his room if she wanted.
As soon as violet had left, they started to talk in hushed voices. As they spoke, volumes rose with each sentences, trying to be heard.
"I think we should leave the call? She didn't want us too, really, you know?"
"Violet said it was fine. We should."
"Dr. Roberts let us work with her so North and I know some of what she does, what's the harm in asking to go on more jobs with her?"
"Boys," he addressed them, knowing how stupidly condescending he must have sounded "we call and ask Dr. Roberts, if he says no, we leave the situation alone and respect the boundaries set by both parties. All in favor?"
They all considered the idea, it was reasonable and gave them all what they wanted to a certain degree. With that in mind, the group agreed, some with slight reluctance.
