That same night, Brian had helped me sneak out after I left a note for my mother and brothers. My backpack was on my back, and I was on his back. When he jumped down from my second-floored bedroom without a sound, I realized that because he was half demon, he was extra stealthy when he wanted to be. It was why I didn't hear him walk sometimes.
As we made our way through the forest, he slowed down a bit. I recognized the path back to his house, but he made a turn. "Where are we going?" I asked him.
"You'll see."
I held onto him tighter and nuzzled the side of his face. "You know... it would be nice to make it to your house from mine when my ankle isn't sprained for once," I joked.
A vibrating sound from inside him warmed me. He chuckled, I realized. "I'll take you on walks."
He stopped as we came to a meadow. It seemed a bit scary, but Brian held me close. He pointed up at the sky. It was indeed beautiful. There were so, so many stars, like coarse sand on a beach. I leaned against him, and surprisingly, within a few silent hours, it was sunrise.
"Sunrise already?" I asked. "I didn't realize we left so late in the night... or... early in the morning."
Brian rubbed my ankle. It was a bit tender still. He carried me back to his house, and I found myself feeling glad to see the wooden cottage. But before taking me inside, Brian did the sweetest thing.
He picked some wildflowers. And as he set me down inside, he put them in my hair. I smiled, and I took one and gave it to him. Brian pressed his lips against my forehead, and then put the flower in a glass with water at my request.
We ate, and talked, and hung out in comfortable silence. When it was evening, we laid in bed together. For the first time, Brian smiled at me. I smiled back at him, and I kissed him. Of course, the make out session got hotter and hotter until we were undressing each other.
Of course, he had undressed me before, but that was in a different light. This time, we were passionate about it. When the note fell out of my bra, he chuckled and pulled me against him. I gladly made love with him, and we fell asleep in a sweet embrace.
This was the beginning of our life together. Yeah, I left my riches, but don't worry. Brian made me part of his weird, killer family. And, I visited my mother at her workplace from time to time. This gave room for her to give me what I needed from back home every now and then. She also gave me back my credit card, which she still paid the bill for until, you guessed it... I got my own source of income.
Brian and I moved into the next town, and I set up a bakery there. At first, I rented a small, tiny apartment with Brian and sold baked goods. After a while, I was able to build my own business. Brian started working remotely from home as a private detective, and pretty soon we had our own house. My father never bothered us, and my brothers thought he was cool. Brian never lacked medication, and bought blood from donors.
And every now and then, Brian and I would escape back to his log cabin. It was nostalgic. And sometimes, we'd go back to the meadow at night and watch the stars together. We were both finally at peace.
