EBONY
When we reached Lily's condo it was around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Mason was still nodding off in the passenger's seat so I didn't immediately park the car. I could hear the loud squeals and laughter of children coming from around the corner. A playground. Zena looked at me with pleading eyes. " Can I Ebi? I promise I won't go very far and I'll stay somewhere you can see me!" I couldn't say no. I nodded and parked the car in front of the playground so that I could keep an eye on her. Two girls danced towards Zena, right as she ran towards them. Making friends already. Adorable. I rolled down all the windows and sighed when I felt the cool air dance across my skin.
Mason took a deep breath as well. I watched as his long Ebony lashes brushed against his cheek. And then I started to love him all over again. Mason startled when my phone started to ring. loud and piercing. I picked it up quickly. He stirred a little, his eyelids fluttering before setting back into sleep. I put the phone to my ear. I recognize the voice of the person on the call. The police officer who is taking care of our situation. " Hello, Ms. Ebony Mensah-Rosado?" the officer asked. "Yes, this is she. Any updates?" I asked a little scared at what she would reveal.
"Ms. Ebony The suspect that was on our list, Jensy, can not actually be the suspect. She is still doing her time in jail and having a lot of rehabilitation courses. She could never set foot outside. She is heavily watched. And today I had my partner visit the facility in which she is, and she was still there. They say the only thing she is allowed to have Is a journal. She doesn't have mailing privileges yet. "
My heart was beating so hard it felt like it was in my throat. "So it's not Jensy?" I asked in a low whisper. " No, it's not." The police officer sounded sympathetic. "Okay, so what about the mailman what did he say? Where did the letter come from?" I asked, sounding a little hysterical. Mason stirred awake by my side. " The mailman reported to us that he had only started that job that day and was given the mail by someone who was covered head to toe in black they were unidentifiable. They wore gloves. But it was clear it was a woman.
I was hyperventilating now. We were right back to the beginning again. We didn't have anyone on our suspect list and a letter just came this morning. Mason hugged me tightly to his chest. purring sweet nothings into my ear. An attempt to calm me down. Was it working? Was it not? I didn't know. I struggled to breathe. Another panic attack. A shiver ran over my body. I circled my arms around my belly. Reminding myself that I was going to be okay. My baby will be okay.
Everyone will be okay and we will find this crazy person. Mason called Zena back into the car and we drove back around the corner and parked in the parking lot. Lily opened the door but her face looked slightly panicked and uncomfortable. Ashely was still here and kept giving me the side-eye but I ignored her. What was she gonna do? Nothing. I'm with Mason and there is nothing she can do because we love each other. Lily led us to a dining room. Plates of spaghetti sat on the table. Ashely skipped ahead of us and found a seat. "Come sit here Mason!" She waved him over as if I want standing right there.
This bitch had some nerve. Mason didn't even acknowledge her. He went to the table and pulled a chair out for me. He patted the seat next to him and Zena came over. Ashely huffed angrily. She looked me dead in the eye. I froze at how scary she looked then. But the look only lasted a second. It was gone before I could finish blinking. She stomped away from the dining table and a minute later I heard the door shut loudly. I saw Lily visibly calm down. What the hell? Ignored the wired feeling in my gut and dug in.

After eating Lily helped me shower and lay down in the guest bedroom. I felt a little wired having LIly help me with things that Usually Mason helped me with but. I was grateful. Zena took the smaller guest bedroom to our right and Lilly stayed in her master bedroom on the left. I laid on my back and listen to Mason as he sang sweet lullabies in Spanish and massaged my baby bump. I fell asleep in no time.

When I woke up it was around 2 am. I was feeling hot and parched. I didn't want to wake Mason he had been working extra since he had excused me from going to work. He needed his sleep. I shifted out of bed. Gripping the soft cotton fabric of the comforter. I waddled to the door and opened it. I was met with a deep eerily looking living room. I shivered as I skimmed the cool wall for a light switch. I instantly relaxed when I found it. I made my way to the kitchen for a glass of water. I wasn't thirsty anymore but I was so hot. So, So hot. Being pregnant is really hard.
I made my way out of the condo and breathe a blissful and deep sigh as the cool night air engulfed my skin. I padded around the hallway and stopped in front of the staircase. I didn't like exercising especially not in the morning. Even though I was told to. The staircase was so fancy. The railing was made in a way where it intertwined around each other. It was so beautiful and-. I lost my train of thought when all of a sudden a strong and urgent force sent me tumbling down the stairs. I was so taken aback I couldn't muster a scream. I landed on my back and looked up just in time to see a swish of jet black hair disappearing around the corner.
Not Jensy. Ashely. A sharp scream burst from my lips when I feel horrible pain in my abdominal area. My blood runs cold when I look down. Blood. Blood. So much blood. I open my mouth but the scream was lodged in my throat. A silent scream. My baby. Oh God, my baby. Please help me God don't let him die, please don't let him die. I pause my prayer when I hear thumping feet. Running. It got louder and louder. I made myself smaller as I saw Lily race around the corner. Her face turned pale as she saw me.
Too in pain to scream. Bleeding on the floor. And she knew what happened. She knew it, I saw it plain as day on her face. She raced down the stairs. " Ebony! I'm so sorry! I told her to stop! I thought she would she said she would! I can fix it I swear it!" Her eyes were crazed and she attempted to pick me up in her arms. No luck. " I have to go get Mason. Don't worry I'm gonna be quick." Lily rushed out. She kissed my forehead and dashed back up the stairs. I took shuddering breaths too in pain to take deep breaths. Please God, my baby. Tears ran down my face, as I sat there a bloody snotty mess.
I heard running again. Louder than the other, faster. Mason.
