Theresa sat in the common room, eyes watching the screen of the only television the psych ward had, at least for the patients. She watched as the TV went fuzzy, back to normal, and then fuzzy once again.

The local news broadcasted a New Year's Eve countdown, including a fireworks show. The nurses made a big deal out of holidays in the psych ward. Theresa appreciated the effort they put into making it feel less like a nightmare. Still, as patients ran around the room crying, yelling, laughing, etc., she realized that no matter what the staff did, a mental ward was a mental ward.

Theresa spent most of the day imagining what this day would have been like with Jasper by her side. Alice would have thrown a party and forced everyone to attend. Jasper would be by her side all night; when the clock turned twelve, he would kiss her.

"Okay! Does everyone have their party hats?" Theresa was brought out of her daydream by one of the nurses yelling as she walked around, and a party hat was promptly placed on her head.

Theresa sat still as patients yelled. Some yelled happily, ready to enter a new year with new opportunities, while others just groaned in dislike. Theresa fit into neither of those groups, deciding to keep to herself instead.

"Here you go, sweetie," The nurse said as she placed a party hat on her head, "Look at you! You're all ready for the new year!"

Theresa didn't answer; instead, choosing to continue to stare at the television.

"Okay, everyone!" A nurse yelled, clapping her hands, "Get ready to start the countdown!"

Theresa listened and watched out the window as everyone began counting down.

"Five!"

"They talk about you as if you're not here."

"Well, Mike sure seems to know that I'm here."

"Four!"

"I'm just messing with you, Jas."

"Jas?"

"Is that okay? Would you rather me call you Jasper?"

"No, I quite like Jas."

"Three!"

"May I have this dance, darlin'?"

"I can't dance."

"I'll teach you."

"Two!"

"Is that how you feel about me? What you said earlier, that I was the person you were waiting for?"

"Ever since I saw you in Bella's truck on your first day of school."

"One!"
