So yesterday, I saw something sexist that really pissed me off. And I decided to rant about it and sexism based on occupations.
What pissed me off
Well I was doing my language homework (let's call the subject language cause otherwise it would be obvi where i lived) and we had an essay about our dream job (idk who the hell puts that essay to people of our age but anyways) and it was based on an exercise from our language book. It had three questions whose answers you were supposed to put in the essay. The first two questions were okay, a bit ridiculous but okay. The third fucking question was "does your gender have anything to do with the occupation you would like to have in the future?"
Rant about it
What. In. The. Fucking. World. Was. THAT?
WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU PUT THAT IN A SCHOOL BOOK? IT IS LITTERALY A QUESTION SHOWING THAT GENDER MATTERS WHEN YOU CHOOSE AN OCCUPATION AND ASKS IF YOU CHOSE A MORE "MANLY" OR LESS "FEMINIME" JOB?
Before you say "they only meant to ask if you took your gender into consideration when you chose your job" and not because they wanted to say that genders have anything to do with occupations, WELL even if that was what they meant (imo it is still sexist but anyways) IT IS A BOOK FOR REALLY IMMATURE TEENAGERS! Anyone could take it the wrong way and say that "SEE EVEN THE BOOK AGREES THAT WOMEN ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE SAME JOBS AS MEN"
Yes, my classmates are this stupid.
General Rant
SO TO CLEAR SOMETHING UP
GENDER. HAS. NOTHING. TO. DO. WITH. OCCUPATIONS. Unless you live in the 18th century then GET THAT INTO YOUR MIND!
FEMALES CAN HAVE ANY JOB THAT USED TO BE CONSIDERED MANLY (eg policemen, firefighters, professional athletes etc) AND THEY CAN HANDLE IT JUST AS FINE SOMETIMES EVEN BETTER THAN THEIR MALE COLLEGUES!
ALSO MEN CAN HAVE ANY JOB THAT USED TO BE CONSIDERED FEMINIME (eg dancer, chef/cook, flight attendant/flight host etc) AND THEY ARE STILL JUST AS MANLY AS THEY WERE BEFORE. THEIR OCCUPATION DOESN'T MAKE THEM MORE FEMINIME.
BECAUSE GENDER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FUCKING OCCUPATION
Did y'all know that in the EU ALONE women who have a stable profession are 23% less than men who have had similar studies and are the same age as them. Working women are, on average, paid less than men in all EU Member States. It has also been observed that men generally occupy higher positions than women.
PEOPLE NEED TO REALISE THAT THIS IS 2021 AND WOMEN CAN DO JUST AS WELL AS MEN OR EVEN BETTER IN WORKING.
