Nobody spoke. The man and the woman — clearly Frank and Alice Longbottom — stared at him, slowly getting up.
Then Alice's eyes wandered down and caught his left forearm. There was a sudden movement and the next moment two wands were pointed at his face.
"Who are you? How did you get in here?!" Alice asked in a sharp voice.
Regulus breath hitched, he was in shock. Unable to speak he only shook his head, staring at them with big eyes."Contact Moody. Quick!" she muttered to her husband, not letting Regulus out of sight.
"Are you carrying any weapons?" she continued.
Again he shook his head, paralysed.
JAMES, he wanted to scream. But then he remembered the last couple of minutes and went sick. And why didn't James follow him? Was he now so disgusted with Regulus that he wanted him to be caught? Or — his stomach twisted painfully at the thought — did Regulus injure him in his panic to the point where he couldn't follow? Oh god, what had he done..."Are you carrying a wand? Put your hands up high, boy!" Frank ordered, changing looks with his wife. Regulus could see that the two of them were almost as overwhelmed with the situation as he was.
He still didn't move.
"I'm not doing anything," he tried to say, his voice cracking.
"You're a Death Eater, broken into one of the most protected safe houses of the Order. We have to take you with us. You'll be questioned. You don't have anything to fear if you cooperate," Frank stated firmly and waved his wand.A weird sensation swept over Regulus but he didn't knew what the spell was doing.
"No", he tried to say. "I'm Sirius'—""What's going on?"
It was Sirius. He stood in the doorway and looked at the three people near the table. Regulus stared at him. Oh god. Not Sirius! This was bad. This was terrible. He certainly didn't stand a chance against three of them and now we was cornered."There is a Death Eater in your house, Sirius," Alice explained with alarmed voice. "We need to take him away and make sure that there aren't any others. And we need to find out how he could enter!"
"What?" Sirius closed up to them, laughing. "No, that's Regulus."
"You know him?" Frank asked frowning, his eyes switching between Sirius and Regulus.
Sirius snorted.
"Yeah? Regulus is my brother, remember?""He's a Death Eater. Maybe this is your brother but is he alone?! Hey, boy, are you—"
Sirius laughed again. It confused Regulus immensely. How could he be so relaxed? Did he seriously not care at all about what was going to happen to Regulus?
"Come on, he isn't doing anything. And he's alone, so don't worry."
"Still, we need to take him to Moody." Frank made a movement that looked like he wanted to grasp Regulus' arm. But Sirius suddenly leaped forward and stood between the two fronts.
"No, you won't.""Sirius!" Alice exclaimed. "He's a Death Eater. Don't you see the Dark Mark?"
Sirius turned around to Regulus. His eyes wandered down his left arm. His expression became suddenly very strange. Regulus remembered with a sinking realisation that his brother hasn't seen his mark before yet. It had always been James. He knew Sirius. He couldn't control his emotions and now this would mean the worst for Regulus.
