Almost

They say that almost doesn't count,
But I hope that they are wrong...
Because, of almosts, I've had a tragic amount,
And I can't stand to think they were a waste all along.

Because you almost loved me,
The way that I loved you...
And I've almost reached a point where I can be
Okay with that not being true.

But I almost married you,
And you almost didn't break my heart;
I almost believed we'd really say "I do",
And you almost didn't decide to make a fresh start.

And you almost didn't say goodbye,
And I almost felt your kiss;
I almost didn't have to wonder why,
I almost didn't have you to miss.

So they say that almost doesn't count,
And I pray to god that they are wrong...
Because, of almosts, I've had a tragic amount,
And I can't stand to think almosts will be my swan-song.

Because I almost didn't become a part of your past,
And this was almost more than a fling...
Because we almost managed to make this last,
And that should count for something.

But maybe almost doesn't count,
And maybe they're not wrong...
Of almosts, I've had a tragic amount,
But maybe almost is where I belong.
