This poem is dedicated to my friend, Zack. I wrote it shortly after he hung himself - he was such a beautiful person; I'll never forget the way he used to shine. He lit up everyone's life.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

He used to shine so bright,
But something wasn't right --
He dealt with so much strife,
It drove him to take his life.

People are always going to speculate,
But what good does that do when it's already too late?
Something drove him to bring it to an end,
Instead of just saying "I need help" to a friend.

Tears will certainly be shed,
Looking back on the life he led --
We'll wonder about any missed signs;
Wonder why we couldn't read between the lines.

He was far too young to die --
It's always so hard to say goodbye;
Very little in this world is fair --
That's why it's so rife with despair.

We're always going to wonder if we missed the signs,
Wonder why we couldn't read between the lines...
Because he used to shine so bright,
But something just wasn't right.
