Keith was a harpy, the only male born in his generation. He had brown-blonde hair and a set of wings set in his lower back. His eyes were hazel and his hair was pulled back in a traditional braid that went all the way down to his thighs.
He sat in his desk fiddling with a grey mechanical pencil, bored of the books he had to study that night. It was a different set of books with all the same information he had been forced to study his whole life.
The males were born one in a generation and tasked with the role of Guardian. Harpys were a female-based, self reproducing species so being a Guardian was all the males were really good for.
Ever since Keith had learned to read, he was taught everything anyone could know about being a Guardian. The Guardian was to abide by 7 rules:
1. The Guardian must teach the chosen 12 how to harness their gifts
2. The Gardian must maintain peace between all four elements
3. The Guardian must never lie to the chosen 12
4. The Gardian must not interfere with the chosen 12s battles
5. The Guardian must always search for any new chosen ones if one is to die
6. The Guardian must never leave the service of the chosen 12
7. The Guardian holds the mantle, like the chosen 12, till he dies.Keith didn't very much like that last one. The responsibility to watch over 12 "chosen" people till he died wasnt something he enjoyed the thought of.
Besides, the last 12 had passed on 21 years ago, and there was still no words of the reincarnations being activated yet. The Leo's cycle was nearly over and if there was no activation on that part, then the cycle would be broken.
Just then, one of the elders burst into his room, huffing and waving a box around in one of her hands.
"Keith-" she took a breath "the Leo... its activated."
Think of the devil, and it will come.
Keith looked at the box in her hand as she handed it to him. It was a map of the world, showing the borders between species. The screen flashed with 12 different colored dots, all spread out across the mainland. A light red, yellow, dark red, and grey dot all rested fairly close together in the Cooperative where an expansive mixture of species lived together. There was a blue and brown dot in the human Zone, and an Aquamarine one in Zephyr. There was a hot pink and a purple dot in Axton, and a dark green one in the uncharted territory in the west, as well as a pale green one in Cordelia, along the northern shore. The final dot was orange and placed in Soleil, fairly close to Amoa's western border.
Keith had been taught how to read the Tracker so he knew what each dot represented and he knew that the orange one would have to be his first stop.
The Zodiacs were an interesting bunch, and seemingly, the only thing that could keep them together was their leader.
The Leo.
