The coastal city of Petana was exactly what the group had hoped for. Avery noticed that it was the biggest city they'd visited so far. The harbor was even busier as their boat was docked carefully among others, but somehow the smallest ship there.
That's a lot of people.
"Alright." Amber got the groups attention. "Let's split up. Carson, Rebecca, George, you three go get us some food for the trip to Abbadon. Nolan, Brianna, Clementine and Keith, see if you can find a captain that knows how to get us there. Ash, Alex, Elizabeth, watch the ship. Iris and Avery, come with me to see if we can find an Inn for the night. All of you should be back here by the time the sun is setting, sound fair?"
The group agreed and all set off in different directions. Avery found himself walking behind Amber and Iris.
"How long do you think it will take us to sail to Abbadon?" Iris asked.
"We wont know until we find an experienced captain." Amber gave her a glance that seemed contemplative to Avery.
"Alright." The three walked in silence for a few minutes stopping once so Iris could ask a shopkeeper where the Inns were. Amber didnt want her to ask for help, claiming she could figure it out, but she asked anyway.
"Avery," Amber called back to him as they walked in the direction the shopkeeper had pointed them. "Any luck yet on summoning your weapon?"
Him and Brianna were the only two that hadn't summoned theirs yet. Soon after Ash had summoned his pistol, Elizabeth had managed to summon her weapon, a Kunai on a chain. Avery was kind of nervous about summoning his and wondered if his gloves were preventing him.
"Not quite. I'm still working on it." Avery found his mind making circles, sticking to one topic.
I could write a story about this place.
"Alright."
"Are there any tools or weapons you've found easier to use than others?" Iris asked, turning and walking backwards.
"Not particularly. I grew up on a farm, so I used a lot of tools. What about yours?"
maybe I could make a main character that grew up in a city like this.
"Well, Eagle fey are obsessed with balance." She spoke carefully, choosing her words slowly. "For instance, whenever I snag a feather and lose one on one arm, I have to remove the same feather on the other arm. Otherwise I lose my balance."
"Doesn't that hurt?" Amber asked.
"If I'm tense, yes, but I can usually relax enough that it only pinches for a second." Iris turned back around. "My swords are both the exact same weight and size, a perfect balance in both hands."
that could make for some good charachter building.
"Keith also said that some strong emotions might be able to put some kind of mental barrier on your ability to summon yours. Emotions like fear, guilt, or maybe even moral struggles." Amber looked at Avery, smiling a bit. "I'm sure if you take your time, you'll be able to summon it when you're ready."
"Thanks." Avery nodded.
He followed the two women for a couple more blocks until they found an Inn called Cloud Nine.
Maybe my story could take place at a hotel. A haunted hotel.
Amber went inside to check that they had enough room for the whole group and Avery remained outside with Iris.
"What if you lose a large chunk of feathers?" Avery was curious.
"Well, I'm sure that would be far more painful than just a couple, so it might be harder to remove feathers from my other arm as easily." She ran one hand through her wings on the other arm. "Luckily, I've never lost more than two or three at a time."
