Today was Christmas. The happiest day on earth for most people. Most people didn't include her. Sarah lazed around the castle, noting the festive mood. Even the strict twin Dean felt like putting up some decorations in the castle.

After quelling the rebellion, Kane was also staying in the castle for most of the days. They took a break from their duties as doctors and handed most of their responsibilities for Lilac and Kori to handle.

Sarah shifted into a more comfortable position in the living room's couch. Then, her eyes followed as Kane slowly walked towards her with a gentle smile.

"Let's go out and have some fun, love. Don't coop yourself up inside every year like this." He told here worriedly.

Sarah shook her head in response. It wasn't that she didn't like Christmas but today was January's death. January, her first friend, was someone she had shared most of her sorrows, and dark days with. January was also the one she shared the measly happiness she had in her younger years.

Until now, she still couldn't forget the chirpy but delicate little girl who could've been her best, best friend if she lived through that nightmare.

"I want to mourn for a few days..." Sarah informed Kane. She planned to go to the cemetery a few hours later to offer some flowers to January's grave. Although her bones weren't there and the grave itself was just symbolic, she still wanted to at least do the motions for her friend.

Kane went silent. He looked like he was pondering something. "Why don't we go together? Then afterwards, you have to spend the day with me. I may not have personally known January but I know she wouldn't want you to keep feeling sad."

"..." Sarah sighed, feeling regretful. Why did she grow up facing misfortune after misfortune? She was abandoned as a baby, her foster parents was killed, her former pack was wiped out, and her first friend died...

Kane took both of her hands in his and kissed them tenderly. "Come on, love. After we visit your friend's grave, I'll take you somewhere nice."

"Okay..."

Kane felt immense happiness wash over him. Every year since they met, Sarah would never budge no matter how much he coaxed her to enjoy the holidays. This year was different. Because of the peace treaty and the things that happened after, she had started to fully let go of the lingering sadness caused by her past.

"Get up and get changed." Kane ordered softly. "We still have to pass by a flower shop. After you're done, just come back here so that we can have Dean teleport us."

Kane shooed her to their room so that she could prepare herself before setting out.

Kane sat leisurely on the couch, thinking how lucky he was to have her. His Beloved may have had some issues but those were something that she could overcome and even if she couldn't, he would be there to help her.

At times, he would feel insecure and vent his frustrations out and even if he didn't want to, he would sometimes deliberately argue with her to ease his inner demons. He knew it was vile to do so but he always felt reassured whenever she would comfort him to end their verbal argument.

He sighed loudly.

"I can't believe I could be so childish." He muttered to himself.

As he waited in the living room, Dean knocked on the door and went in.

"King, Queen asked me to deliver a message for her. She asked me to tell you to meet her in the garden." Dean said in his usual calm voice and stoic facial expression.
