Katie's P.O.V

"She stepped off the bus out into the city streets" Vince sung into the mic, holding Eddie's lyric book.
"Just a small town girl with her whole life
Packed in a suitcase by her feet

But somehow the lights didn't
Shine as bright as they did
On her mama's TV screen"
Dylan sung the last line with him, playing my melody, with me.

"And the work seemed harder
And the days seemed longer
Than she ever thought they'd be

But you know you got to stick to your guns
When it all comes down
Cause sometimes you can't choose
It's like heads they win
Tails you're gonna lose"
Vince smiled.

We stopped.
Stevie behind his drums, me on Eddie's left, Dylan on Eddie's right.
Kirk and the gov were sat at the soundboard.
"It's a classic story..." Gov spoke first.
"She made it though..." Kirk pointed out, talking about Vikki.
"Vikki's bell rung. The angel got her wings... This is the story about a fallen angel." I spoke from the heart.
"I like that..." Vince looked back at me nodding.

"Win big - mama's fallen angel
Lose big - living out her lies
Wants it all - mama's fallen angel
Lose it all, rolling the dice of her life!"
Stevie sung out, no music, not beat, nothing. Just bland, but beautiful.

"Win big..." Kirk mumbled. "Katie, sing 'mama's fallen angel', but harmonise it." He suggested. "Maybe ring it out a bit..."
"OK." I nodded, with a light shrug.
"Win big." He started.
"Mama's fallen angel!" I sung out.
"Lose big." He smiled at me.
"Living out her lies." The harmonies didn't sound right on that one.
"Wants it all." Kirk nodded for me to go on.
"Mama's fallen angel." Stevie sung it with me.
"Lose it all." Kirk smiled.
"Rolling the dice of her life!" Eddie and Dylan joined in with Stevie and I.
"Vince go again. You four harmonise, do what feels right. Gov, we need a take of this." Kirk sat up, messing with the soundboard.

"From the top, Vinnie." Gov gave the 'go'.
I started the melody, the boys quickly following me in.

"She stepped off the bus out into the city streets
Just a small town girl with her whole life
Packed in a suitcase by her feet

But somehow the lights didn't
Shine as bright as they did
On her mama's TV screen

And the work seemed harder
And the days seemed longer
Than she ever thought they'd be

But you know you got to stick to your guns
When it all comes down
Cause sometimes you can't choose
It's like heads they win
Tails you're gonna lose!"
Vince smiled.

"Win big - mama's fallen angel!" We harmonised on cue.
"Lose big - living out her lies
Wants it all - mama's fallen angel
Lose it all, rolling the dice of her life!"
We smiled, Vince singing some lines over our harmonises, making it more powerful

Kirk and gov were applauding us from the sound room, making us all smile.
"I think this my most favourite song we've ever written." I smiled, looking at my band mates.
"It's not a single, but it is music video worthy. I can see this shit happening. What comes next?" Gov smiled.

. . .

"Just a step away from the edge of a fall
Caught between heaven and hell
Where's the girl I knew a year ago!"
Dylan sung out, as he and I were the only ones in the recording room.
Kirk was sat at the soundboard, everyone else sleeping in another room.

We weren't going home tonight.

"Too much too soon
Or just a little too late
Cause when her ship came in
She wasn't there and it just wouldn't wait!"
Dylan sung.

I took an opportunity here... Not sure how it's gonna go down, but as soon as Dylan sung that, I jumped into a solo, following the flow of the song, taking it easy, but keeping it smooth.
I made a windmill with my right arm, as I finished, having a note ring out.

Dylan smirked at me, picking up my melody again, hitting the chorus one last time.
We had it.
Kirk ran to get Vince and the boys, and I played the solo a couple more times, so Dylan could get it down on paper, also making a couple of approved changes to it.
The guys all complained, but we took it from the top, Kirk recording every second.

Ladies and gentleman... I give you my favourite song by Janie's Gun.
Fallen Angel.

. . .

I woke up, Kirk's crotch in my face.
Eh... I'm not complaining...

I sighed, closing my eyes. We were still fully clothed, which would explain why I'm not that comfortable, but I'm with Kirk, so it's OK.
I felt him run a hand through my hair, making me smile, and lean into it.
"Morning." He croaked out.
"Morning." I hummed.
I looked up at him.

We were lying on an airbed, some shitty thick blue blanket under us. It was meant to be our duvet, but it looks like we just fell asleep on the bed, rather then in the bed.
Kirk's hair was a long curly mess. I crawled up the bed, and straddled his lap, smiling down at him, as he held my hips.
"Would you ever cut your hair?" I asked him.
"Do you think it'd look good?" He asked me.
We spoke quietly.

Dylan was on the couch, which was our headboard, Eddie was on another air bed, Stevie was on an armchair, and Vince was meant to be on another couch, but he was gone... Oh well.
We were in a small 'staff room' if you'll call it that. It just a dingy little room with a small kitchen and some seating areas.
"I think so..." I ran a hand through his hair.
"Will you still love me?" Kirk asked me, his insecurities making a show.
"Forever and ever." I promised, leaning down and kissing his lips. "I'd die for you."
"I'd die for you." Kirk promised me.

"Yuck." We heard Stevie on my right, Kirk's left.
We looked up at him, seeing him slouched on the armchair, propping his head up, with his arm on the armrest.
He was looking right at us, disgusted.
"You shou'd cut y'r hair, though... Can I do i' fuh ya?!" Stevie asked.
"Maybe..." Kirk chuckled. That was a no.
"Why don't you get a girlfriend, Stevie?" I asked him, sitting back on Kirk's crotch, making him grip my hips, warning me not to move.
"I dun noh an'one..." Stevie shrugged.
"I could set you up!" I smiled. Do I even know anyone...?
"I guess..." Stevie shrugged, getting himself up.
He stretched and yawned, before walking over to the kitchenette, switching the kettle on.
