episode 4 - The World is Watching
(picture: some of Shamara's team pre-Blip :))
"Well, the Wakandans are here."
Shamara looked up with a jolt when Bucky strode through the doors. Her stomach gave a strange series of flops as he walked over.
She and Sam had spent the past several minutes in silence. Hopefully, he wasn't thinking about their conversation as much as she was. Shamara was trying not to ponder it, yet she couldn't help herself. Something had changed between her and Bucky. Not when he kissed her, but in the following conversations. Through the mutual recognition of trust, their shared pasts . . . something had shifted. And she didn't want to have to think about it. It was confusing and uncomfortable, and she needed a cure for the serum. Now, Sam knew something. And she didn't. And it was going to bug her because she didn't want to figure it out.
"They want Zemo," Bucky gestured to the baron in the bathrobe. "Bought us some more time."
"Were you followed?" Sam looked at the doors.
"No."
"How can you be so sure?" Zemo looked up from his search for . . . something.
"Cause I know when I'm being followed," Bucky gave him a look.
Shamara's grin grew, and she shook her head.
"It was sweet of you to defend me at least," Zemo opened a jar.
"Hey, you shut it," Sam narrowed his eyes. "No one's defending you. You killed Nagel."
Bucky walked to the other end of the bar, squeezing Shamara's shoulder as he passed. She couldn't keep herself from smiling a little too stupidly and quickly sipped her coffee.
"Do we really have to litigate what may or may not have happened?" Zemo leaned against the countertop.
Shamara fought the urge to tighten her jaw. Though she had hated Nagel, and now the serum couldn't be reproduced for a while . . . Zemo had been ruthless. Besides, Shamara was hit with another dead end. One that she might have had answers to, even a solution to if Nagel was alive.
"There's nothing to litigate. You straight shot the man," Sam sounded like he was shaking his head, even though he just kept his gaze on Zemo.
Bucky looked down at his phone, and his eyes widened, "Sam."
Shamara straightened at the tone in his voice.
"What?" Sam turned.
"Karli bombed a GRC supply department."
"What? What's the damage?"
"Eleven injured, three dead. They have a list of demands and are promising more attacks if those demands aren't met," Bucky scratched the back of his head.
"She's getting worse," Zemo said matter-of-factly. "I have the will to complete this mission. Do you?"
Shamara stood and walked over to Bucky, looking over his shoulder. The pictures were awful. But what disgusts me is how Zemo acts like he cares about how she is getting worse. He would try to kill Karli regardless, simply because she's a supersoldier. Shamara looked up as Zemo delivered another supersoldier rant.
"It's that warped aspiration that led to Nazis, to Ultron, to the Avengers," Zemo lifted one eyebrow.
"Hey, you're talking about our friends," Sam crossed his arms.
"The Avengers," Bucky leaned against the countertop. "Not the Nazis."
Shamara couldn't hold back a snort. Bucky shot her a look.
