episode 6 - One World, One People
Bucky fell from the edge with a yell that ripped through Shamara's heart. She stumbled backward, her throat tight as his cry rang through her ears. Before she could think or do anything, the Flag Smasher guy with long hair leaped into the construction site with a metal beam. Shamara hurried to the side, her heart pounding as she looked into the pit. Bucky had blocked the Flag Smasher and was on his feet, fighting again.
A yell made Shamara turn as Walker and Karli kept battling. Shamara's stomach clenched when he grabbed Karli by her throat, lifting her off the ground.
"Walker!" Shamara barked, but one of the other Flag Smashers was already on him.
Karli fell to the ground, gasping. Before Shamara could run to her, she was on her feet again. Her fists up, despite terrified, young eyes. Walker swung his fake shield at her, making her back away. There was no right way to intervene in that fight. Shamara ran towards the truck, but a Flag Smasher got between her and it.
"Do you really think this will change the GRC's mind?" Shamara lifted her eyebrows at the woman. "Fear only fuels determination."
"They won't take us seriously if we aren't serious," she stiffened when Karli cried out again.
She kicked Shamara, but Shamara grabbed her foot. She tugged her down before she could spin, and the woman tumbled to the ground.
"You have more serum," she gawked at Shamara for a moment.
The observation caught Shamara off guard, and she hesitated. The woman tackled Shamara's legs. Shamara misstepped as she dodged, landing hard on her back. She shoved the woman off of her, but the Flag Smasher took them to the edge of the pit. Shamara grunted as she landed on metal beams. She kicked until the woman fell another step of the scaffolding.
The truck rumbled closer.
"Shamara!" Bucky called, sounding panicked.
She rolled off of the scaffolding instinctively, grabbing the metal beams like a ladder until she reached the ground. The Flag Smasher climbed back up as Karli sent the truck onto the groaning metal. Bucky pulled Shamara back, staring above them. His face was tense.
"I don't think we can catch that," Shamara's stomach twisted.
"You think," Bucky glanced back at the Flag Smasher, who just watched with them.
They fell silent as the metal screeched and bent under the weight. Shamara gripped Bucky's hand, flinching with each new sound. He pulled her closer, his hands flexing. She watched. Tense. Shamara was nearly certain it was going to fall when something stopped it. Steadying it. She lifted her eyebrows as a battered fake shield fell from the sky. Walker began hauling the truck back to safety.
"A half-decent decision for once," she exhaled in relief.
"I still hate him," Bucky's shoulders slumped.
"As you should. Oh."
Walker, Karli, and a couple other Flag Smashers fell through the metal, slamming onto the ground. Shouts and horror tightened through the air as the truck finally plummeted . . .
Only for Sam to fly through the air, right under the truck.
His new wings spread wide on either side of the shield, his thrusters blazed blue with effort. The suit practically screamed Captain America, unafraid. Bucky hurried forward, pulling Walker out of the tangle of metal. Shamara nearly stumbled, her eyes wide as Sam and his wings, thrusters, and Redwings inched the council members back onto solid ground.
