episode 6 - One World, One People
The light from the windows brushed around the fluttering, sheer curtains. Bathing the room in a glow almost as soft as the cool embrace holding Shamara. A smile broke over Shamara's lips, but she kept her eyes closed and moved closer to her husband. She shifted her grasp around his shoulders, rubbing his back. She had loved waking in Bucky's arms before. But it was even better knowing that the cool enveloping her belonged to her husband.
She never wanted to move.
"Sabah el kheir, zawjati," Bucky's voice was raspy and made her heart flutter.
My wife.
She hummed, resting her head on his chest, "Zawji."
Her husband.
"How did you sleep?" Bucky smoothed her hair.
"Good," Shamara yawned.
"Your accent is much stronger when you first wake up."
"I think you've mentioned that. I hardly notice it."
"Mhm," Bucky shifted his arm around her. "Usually, it's barely noticeable."
Shamara traced the metal plates in his shoulder, "Do you think the nightmares will continue to be less common?"
"Can't say. But even when we have bad nights, we won't be alone," Bucky nudged her head. "It's nice feeling comfortable enough to sleep in a bed again."
"Mhm. Very."
"You look so cozy."
"You feel so cozy," she propped her chin against his chest and looked up. "It's nice that I'm hot and you're cold."
"Yes. Very hot," Bucky patted her thigh.
"Ruined it with the patting. And you've made that joke before."
"Not joking," he nuzzled her cheek, then her neck. "And I'm beginning to think you like my patting, seeing how often you tease me about it."
"Your logic is flawed," Shamara shut her eyes again.
"Uh-huh."
She made a face after a long moment of silence, "I want coffee, but I don't want to move. Or you to move. What time is it?"
She felt him shift and reach for his watch, " . . . nearly seven. Sam's celebration is at noon."
"Do you want to explore the town today?" Shamara rested a hand on his stomach.
"We'll need to bring something to the potluck."
"Groceries. Good point, though I think Sarah said she got some stuff for us."
"She did," Bucky nodded. "But we should look for something special."
"Maybe I can have the boys make pittas, then I can put some meat in the new crockpot while we are out. It'll be kinda like shwarma."
"Kinda like sloppy joes."
Shamara frowned and looked up, "What?"
"American thing I discovered a few months again," Bucky propped himself on his elbow, making Shamara shift off of him.
"Hey."
"Oh, come here," he sat up and pulled her onto his lap.
He kissed her, and Shamara grinned. She reached into his messy bedhead, making it worse until he pulled back.
"So rude," Bucky made a face at her.
"It's adorable, though," Shamara kissed his cheek.
"You keep this up, and I'm going to make coffee."
