••••••••••••••••••••
From the time that I woke up to the time that I left with Andrew, Katie was a mess. On and off tears all morning. Every time Jenna or I would ask if she was ok, she would just wave us off. Jenna left about half an hour before Andrew knocked on the door.
"You'll be ok alone?" I asked, grabbing my phone from the table next to Katie.
She nodded.
"Ok. Do you need anything before I leave?"
'No.'
"Ok. Bye."
"Hey." I was greeted with a kiss.
"Hey. Is Jack still talking about the Madi girl?"
"Nonstop."
"Hmmm."
"Katie doing better?"
"She was crying this morning over a dog food commercial..."
"That time of the month?"
"Pretty sure. So what shall we do today?"
"I thought i'd show you my flugelhorn."
"Your instrument?"
"If you know what I mean."
"Oh my god, Andrew!" I laughed.
"I meant the instrument. I brought it with me. I'll show it to you in the park."
"Sounds good."
We walked the few blocks to Bryant Park and sat down on a bench. Andrew played some extremely complicated song that honestly sounded amazing. Just like watching him on piano, I was entranced.
"I've been practicing a lot so I could show you." He said upon finishing the song.
"It sounds great!"
"Thanks."
"I love you. I really do."
"I love me too. Oh yeah, and you."
I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up."
"Make me."
Just like in all those movies, I did.
"I've been waiting my whole life to do that to a guy."
"Your day has come."
Another good hour of the afternoon was spent in the park, just talking. We ran back to the guys' apartment quickly to put the flugelhorn back, then just walked around Midtown for the rest of the day. As always, we headed back to the bar at around 7. The first thing I saw tonight was Katie smoking. Not this again.
"Stop smoking!" I commanded, taking the cigarette out of Katie's hand, putting it out on the bar and throwing it in an abandoned beer can.
She glared at me and took a long sip of her beer.
"Katie, talk to us." Andrew said.
'Nothing to talk about'
"You're terribly off."
'That's the single life for you.'
"Doesn't have to be like that."
'But it is.'
I shrugged and walked to the other end of the bar. There really was nothing I could say to Katie to make her feel better at this point. Andrew followed and took a seat next to me. Nate and Jenna came in next, followed not too long after by Jack and Madi. Madi's dress was something that you would see on the side streets of Vegas if you catch my drift.
"Hey guys! I thought we'd perform for Madi tonight!" Jack suggested.
"Perform?" Madi asked. She seemed confused.
"With my band..."
"What are you called?"
"Fun" Andrew blurted out.
Nate and Jack both turned to look at him.
"Fun. With a full stop."
"Yeah, I guess so. Let's perform, guys." Nate said, already heading for the stage.
And they performed. Andrew and Nate definitely weren't as into it as they usually were, but it was still great.
"Wow that was so good!" Madi exclaimed.
Everyone but Jack glared at her as she hugged him. I couldn't deal with her anymore, so I turned around, striking up an irrelevant conversation with Nate.
"What are you doing here, Madi?" A man asked, walking right up to Madi and staring her down.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"Do you not remember the past two months?"
"Um, no."
"The amazing sex we had three days ago?"
Damn...
"WHAT?!" Jack jumped in. "Madi, is this true?!"
"It is! Who are you?" The man asked.
"I'm her boyfriend. Jack."
"Really? Because i'm her boyfriend too. Dan."
"Get the fuck off of me you slut!" Jack roared.
"Jack! I love you!" Madi insisted.
"I don't love you. You used me? You cheated on poor Dan here? Go fuck yourself and die, bitch."
Jack pointed to the door. The rest of us stared, taken aback by how angry Jack was.
"Jack please!" Madi pleaded in a final attempt to win him back.
"Get out!"
"You still love me, right?" She asked, turning to Dan.
The nerve of this bitch, I swear.
"Fucking no!" He pointed at the door.
"Guys" She begged, looking at us. In one synchronized hand movement, we were all pointing at the door.
"Katie" She begged.
Katie flipped her off and proceeded to point to the door. We all laughed.
She left, defeated. I laughed again and started talking to Jenna once again. The next thing I knew, Jack yelled "that's it!" and yet another bar fight broke out. The next minute and a half was a blur, lots of broken glass and blood. Finally, Dan was on the ground, unconscious.
"KATIE!" Jenna screamed.
Katie was bent over a stool with blood coming out of her mouth. I was a little bit too caught up in the moment to even think straight. The next thing I knew, Jack was leaving the bar, carrying Katie.
