Chapter 3

Emery's POV

Dad left when I was 16 and Rain was 14. After dad left mom turned to drugs and she ended up losing her job because she would show up high. I remember the day I found out she was using drugs.

Flashback

"Mom, I'm home," I said.

I walked into the house but didn't hear my mom. I shut the door and placed my bag on the floor. I walked into the kitchen and saw needles, lighters, and pills that were crushed. Is my mom using drugs?.

"MOM" I yelled walking up the stairs.

I went to her room and barged in and saw her on the bed l. I can't believe this woman. I walked over to her and tapped her shoulder.

"Mom," I said.

"Hmmm" she responded.

"Are you doing drugs?" I asked.

She stays quiet.

"MOM" I yelled.

"Stop yelling," she says.

She sits up and looks up at me.

"What do you want?" she asked.

"Are you doing drugs?" I asked.

"What no. Are you crazy" she says.

This fuckin lair.

"Really because the kitchen counter says otherwise, "I said.

"I only did it once and I didn't like it. I promise I will never do it again" she says.

"Ok, don't do it anymore, "I said.

End of flashback

Little did I know she went back to do drugs again. I was so stupid to believe she wasn't going to do it anymore. After she lost her job, that's when I got a job at the restaurant. I have been working there since I was 16 and I am now 20. Woah Time flies.

I probably have to work extra hours or even get a second job, but that's going to take time away from Rain. I need to figure this out as soon as possible.

The bus came to a stop and I got off and walked to the hospital. Once I was in the hospital I walked to the room and saw Rain from the glass window in the hallway. Rain was laughing at something that was on the tv and eating food. I love that she's laughing, I hope I get to see that often. I walked into the room and placed the bags on the table that was in the room.

"How are you feeling," I asked, sitting in the chair next to her bed.

"I'm feeling better, especially since the nurse gave me 4 pudding cups," she says.

"Why did she give you 4?" I asked.

"3 for me and 1 for you," she said, sliding a pudding cup and a spoon to me.

"Woah you're so generous," I said, taking the pudding cup.

We both shared a laugh but she started to tear up.

"Hey what won't," I asked.

I got in the bed with her and pulled her into my chest.

"I'm just so worried about everything, " she says.

"I know," I said.

After holding her in my arms for a while I hear snoring coming from her, she's asleep. I slowly moved my arms and placed her head on the pillow. I moved the blanket to her shoulder. I moved the hair that was on her face and kissed her head.

After getting ready for bed I laid down on the couch and watched Rain peacefully sleep. I close my eyes trying to fall asleep but I can't.

"Emery" I hear Rain say.

"Yea" I turned my head to her.

"Are you scared?" she asked

Yes.

"No" I lied.

"Why," she asked.

"Because you are crazy if you think I'm letting you leave me," I said.

"I love you, sis," she says, looking at me.

"I love you too," I said.

"Goodnight," she says and closes her eyes.

"Good night" I whisper but loud enough for her to hear.

"Please save her please" I cried to the doctors.

"I'm sorry we did everything we could," they said.

I pushed past them and saw her lifeless body laying on the bed.

"Please Rain come back please," I said crying and hugging her.

I shot up from the couch and saw Rain was awake and eating breakfast.

"You good," she says with food in her mouth.

No.

"Yes," I said. I walked over to her and kissed her on the forehead.

"How are you feeling?" I asked.

"I'm doing ok," she says.

"Do you need anything?" I asked.

"No, but don't you have work?" she asked.

Fuck, I forgot.

"Yeah, if you want me to stay I could call off," I said

"Emery goes to work, I'll be ok," she said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yes," she said with a smile.

I got my bag from the table and walked into the restroom and luckily this restroom had a shower. After getting ready I walked over to Rain and kissed her on the forehead.

"I have to go now," I said, grabbing my other bag with my money in it.

"Ok, I love you," she says.

"I love you too" I walked out of the room and walked down the hall.

I walked into the restaurant and went to the back putting my stuff in the locker.

"Hey" I hear from behind me.

I turned around and saw Zara.

"Hey," I said, putting my apron on.

"So what happened to your sister?" she asked.

Zara is my only friend she should know.

"My sister has cancer," I said.

"Omg, I'm so sorry Emery," she said.

"It's ok, I just need to find a way to make more money fast," I said walking out to the front.

"I could help with that," Zara said.

"How," I asked.

"We can talk about it after work, '' she said, handing the notepad and pen.

"Ok," I said.

I walked over to the table and started to take orders.
