Chapter 14

Emery's POV

The day after Isaac found out about my sister, he had called the next day and told me not to come to work. I had told him that I needed the money but he said to look at my bank account and when I did there was five grand. He said that was the money from Xavier for the private room. It's been three days already and for some reason Rains has gotten better.

I walked into the room with breakfast from IHOP, the hospital food from the cafeteria is not that great.

"I got IHOP," I said.

"Thank god" Rains said.

I have Rain her food and Ciara her food. I sat down on the chair next to Rain's bed and started to eat my food. Ciara had been staying for the past couple of days because Rains wants her to be here so her parents let her stay.

"How do you feel" I asked

"I feel better to be honest but my mouth feels like a desert" she said.

"Just keep drinking your water even if you have to pee every five minutes" is said.

The door opened and Rain's doctor walked in.

"Hello Rain, how are you feeling?" he asked.

"Better than the other day, but my mouth is just really dry,"she said.

"Yeah that is a side effect we thought the cancer was spreading but the cancer isn't spreading, your body is just fighting off the cancer" he said.

So is she getting better or worse this doesn't really and sense to me.

"You are actually doing better but there's going to be time you feel like crap and times when you feel
ok but like I said your body is just fighting off the cancer" he said.

Wait she's getting better.

"Wait, so does that mean I could go home one day" Rain asked.

"Yes but not soon, we still have to keep watch but when you do go home you will still have to do chemotherapy" he said.

"Really,wait, I have a question" Rain asked.

"What is it?" the doctor asked.

"When will my hair start to fall out?" she asked

"It take two to four weeks after you start treatment"
He said.

"So at any moment"she said.

"Unfortunately yes, I will come late to check on you" he said and walked out.

Me and Ciara both made eye contact with each other not knowing what to say.

"Rain when you do lose your hair you're still going to look beautiful" Ciara said.

"I don't don't care about losing my hair. I never liked having  hair, now instead of taking me two hours to get ready it will take me an hour now" she said.

Woah she's taking this pretty good, and Rain never really liked having hair. Growing up she always liked getting short hair. She didn't like her hair if it passed her shoulders.

"And I could wear different colored wigs," she said.

We all laughed and talked about what wigs she's was going to wear everyday. Then that when it hits me she will be able to go home. The home where a drug of a mom lives I have to figure something out.

"I have errands to run, you're ok if I leave" asked Rain.

"Yes, I have Ciara here," Rain said.

"Ok" I said "call me if anything" I told Ciara.

"I will," Ciara said.

I grabbed my bag from the table and kissed Rain on the forehead before I left. I walked out The hospital and walked down the road to the closest bus stop. Once the bus I got to the bus stop the bus pulled up.  I paid and sat down next to the window.

Once the bus that I got off and walked to my house. I opened the door and walked in and saw my mom coming down stairs. She looks different, usually her hair is messed up and her clothes are dirty but not it's time. Her hair is pulled back and she's wearing a black uniform, she was tying her apron and looking up.

"Emery what are you doing here"she asked.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"I'm going to work," she said.

Work?, she has a job and is working.

"The day you told me about Rain I stopped using drugs to get clean and got a job at McDonald's" she said.

All this happened in 3 weeks.

"Why"I asked.

"Because you were right I was never a mom to you or Rain, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to see you guys" she said.

Even though it's late, she is still trying to get better but I think I will be able to forgive but not forget.

"I just want you guys to come home," she said.

"We will," I said.

"Wait what" she said.

"Rain is getting better but won't be able to come home just yet but when she does I want everything to be perfect ok" I said.

"So this means you guys are going to stay," she asked.

"Yes mom" I said.

My mom ran to me and hugged me, she even cried. I don't remember the last time we hugged but all I know is that I  missed her.
