Chapter 15

My second morning off of school went just as yesterday, except that I didn't go running to Will's office in search for some hidden message somewhere. I told myself that if I had to know, Will would tell me, and I had nothing to worry about. But I somehow thought all of the chaos was my fault for not running away before moving here or even talking to Mason. Maybe then everything in my life would be flipped. Maybe.

Evelyn stayed in the dorm a little longer than yesterday and ate her breakfast with me, laying her back on the ground next to my bed, and we just went over what happened the night I met Knoll, every single detail. She informed me with even more details about her and Travis- and Mason, but I zoned it all out with my own thoughts about William.

I only thought about him anymore, and it frightened me with the fear of falling madly in love with him and not being able to do anything about it. Of course, I loved him, but I saw a clear difference in loving and falling in love. Yes, a very dark, solid line divided the two, and I was nearing that line almost on the line. I was falling in love with my mysterious benefactor, but I had to stop it from going any further until I understood the prophecy and its meaning.

And another thing was my age. Our ages didn't have much of a difference, but I had to graduate before anything happened between us- in public anyway. But in a way, I was relieved by that for the fact that I needed to get to know his secrets and all that stuff on his computer that he deliberately hid from me.

I still loved him anyway.

"So, are we going to do lunch today I'm the courtyard?" Evelyn trilled after finishing her pound of bacon.

My eyes flew open, forgetting about my deal with Knoll last night, "I have to go. Do you thing Shane is back from his tour yet?"

She shrugged, "People say he comes and goes, but I don't really know. Why?"

"I have to talk to his- I mean him," I repeated, so she wouldn't get the wrong idea, "I have to talk to him."

"Um, well, I doubt he'll talk to just anyone, no offense," She stammered, "I mean, he IS a celebrity after all."

I shook my head, "I know, I know, but I saw somewhere that he might be back today." I thought about the computer and his schedule, not paying it any attention at first.

"Oh, well, if you do see him, tell him that Evelyn says HI!" She mocked.

I squinted and snatched a light jacket from our closet, "Fine, I will, because I WILL see him."

I left, slamming the door and pulling my arms through the sleeves of the jacket and shoving my room key into my jean pocket. Luckily today, I thought about my outfit before I stormed out of the room, and I wore a pair of skinny jeans, a striped tank top, and my leather sneakers. It made for a better 'mission' outfit, after all, and I thought that I'd be doing plenty of running and investigating. So, I left my skirt and kitten heels in the closet.

It only took me a few minutes to reach the back entrance of my dorm building, and I swing the door wide open, not giving a care if someone was standing behind it from the outside. But with my luck, I heard a bang and a moan of pain, and I hurried around to the outside to help whoever I slapped with the door.

"Sorry!" I yelped immediately, grabbing for the person's arm.

I pulled him up and brushed off some dirt from his shoulders since that's what everyone else did- in movies and stuff. So, why not? But I glanced at his necklace when I was cleaning his sleek leather jacket, and I froze, gently grabbing the necklace. It had the initials 'SL' imprinted on the dog tag necklace, and I whipped my head up to his face.
