Chapter 16
His demonic eyes and devilish smile had me fearing for my life, not because of just that but because of his voice sending chills down my spine. And I just froze in my very steps, my mouth wide and dry and without words to fill the gap. It fell a little too quiet then, except for the croaks from my loss of words and fear of having been lures to the middle of nowhere with two mysterious guys. Two guys who I had known for maybe three days combined, and they probably knee more about me than I knew about them. It only gave them that much more as an advantage.
"I-I have it," I stuttered, licking my flaky, dry lips, "It's in my pocket."
"Nervous, are we?" Shane butted in, mimicking Knoll's same attitude. Demonic and evil.
"Shane, you were in on this?" I coughed, "You filthy-"
"Shut up, Liv," Knoll cut me off, clenching my chin tightly and ruthlessly, "Just give me the damn key."
"Let. Me. Go," I demanded.
Knoll's hand ripped away from chin and to my jacket's pocket. He dug through it like a freak while Shane pinned my arms behind me, helplessly, and I didn't do a thing about it. I knew screaming would only weaken me since we were in the middle of nowhere, and arguing had no effect of these losers. Maybe he'd let me go after he got what he wanted, but I knew that wasn't a possibility.
"Let me get it!" I yelled in Knoll's face, "It's not even in my jacket!"
He took a step back, appalled by my behavior, "Get it then. And maybe I'll think about letting you back to the school."
I ripped away from Knoll and kicked Shane in the shin, forcing him to release me from his hold. Once I had my hands free, I felt inside my pocket for the rusty key. My eyes widened when I felt nothing but an empty pocket, and I patted it until Knoll gave me squinted eyes of hatred. I glanced back to Shane who looked the opposite way the second I did, and my heart sunk endlessly.
"I had it before we got here," I defended myself, "I swear!"
"Too bad you don't have it now," Knoll fumed angrily, "Put her somewhere until we can get some information outta her."
Shane pulled my arm almost out of the socket, me fighting with my feet against the doorway and blocking them from letting me into the cottage of doom. My foot slipped one second, and I fell right into the house and on my knees, my hands catching me from falling flat on my face. I heard a crash when I fell, and some trinkets knocked into my head, sending a shoot of pain to my brain.
"Get up," Knoll kicked the bottom of my shoe, "Shane, make sure she doesn't get away. I'm going out."
Knoll lightly punched Shane on the way out and slammed the door shut, locking it from the outside. Shane and I were prisoners in the middle of nowhere, alone.
"Why'd you do this to me?" I muttered, rolling over on the floor, "Why'd you let me walk into this trap?"
His eyes glimmered in the sun peering through the translucent, burgundy curtains from across the single room cottage, "I'm sorry."
"No, you're not," I argued quietly, "You let me fall into a stupid trap."
"I know it was wrong of me, but Knoll has some kind of control over me," Shane said weakly, "I really am sorry."
