Ahhhh! It's summer for me, but I'm still having a hard time writing this....Because I'm in the process in finishing two other stories that I'm liking a whole lot better than this one- for now anyways. But yeah, I'll be doing somewhat frequent updates on this story throughout the summer- hopefully finishing it! ;D Whoo! I dunno...First I have to finish this chapter... -_____-

The Benefactor 27
My head hit the soft comfort of the pillow, and I drifted into a deep sleep. Though it didn't last for nearly as long as I thought, my sleep was disturbed by a loud pinging noise against my window, and I thought it to be Mason again.
"Livvy," I heard a guy's voice whispering in my ear, "Wake up, I have to talk to you."
"Leave me alone, Mason," I grumbled half asleep, "Go away."
"It's not Mason," I heard his voice turn deeper and darker, "It's me, Shane."
I whipped my hazy glare to him watching over me, wondering what he planned on doing to me this time, but he seemed a whole lot kinder than the last time we met. A light grin filled his face, and his eyes flickered to his normal color.
"What do you want?" I hissed, curling up next to the wall with my covers, "Seriously, Shane. I don't need you complicating my situation..."
"I want to help."
I didn't believe it. Whether he sounded as serious as a Congressman- scratch that, Shane was never going to go against Mordred to help me and Mr. Knight fulfill the prophecy, or even just bring Mr. Maddox down. Mordred had too much control over him for that to work out without chaos- like before. Yesh, I wanted to avoid that entire situation...
"How am I supposed to believe you after what you did in Malibu?" I bit my lip, not truly trusting that Shane genuinely wanted to help me in my darkest hour, "What's your angle, Shane?"
"My angle?" he sounded out the word to show his confusion, "What. Do you not trust me?"
I tugged the covers closer to protect me, "Shall I remind you about Malibu?" The words clicked, not fazing him.
"That was a mistake," his lips glistened with honesty, "It must have happened with someone else-"
"Mason..." I let the words flow, "He acted strange, almost like you. But less."
He waited for it to settle in. Mordred was behind it all, both Mason and Shane's strange behavior, but it wasn't like I didn't already come to that conclusion. But knowing both claimed to be on Mordred's side added to the obvious change.
"How can I know you- he won't do the same thing?" I began breaking the walls that separated the two of us, "It happened twice before..."
"I can't promise you that his power won't overcome me," Shane placed his hand gently on my knee, "But I can promise you that I'll protect you."
I shook my head almost immediately with the regret of betraying Mr. Knight and Mason, "I want to be safe... But I can't risk what I have with-"
I froze at the near slip up of confessing my relationship to Shane and moved further from him.
"With who?" he pried with narrowed eyes, "Mason?"
I sat breathless, holding my mouth wide open hoping that he wouldn't guess Mr. Knight.
"...Is it," he began, suddenly realizing who the mystery man was, "Mr. Knight?"
My mouth went dry from the fear of having to explain to him how and why it all happened in the first place. His eyes told a completely different story; a story that wasn't too concerned with my affair. His once cold, harsh eyes had flickered to caring and sympathetic. I was lost and relieved at the same time.
