Chapter 4
I found my name on a list on the wall, and I followed the dotted line to a teachers name. Professor Yates, Room 11C, which would be in the lecture wing. Since this was the first day of school, everyone went to whichever classroom to receive their schedules and orientation. I knew only because William- well since school started, Mr. Knight- told me everything I needed to know on the car ride up to the academy.
I stared down at the map he'd given me and followed it to my designated classroom. And it took awhile to find it. I raced up and down the empty halls, way beyond the bell ringing. I was lost, and I searched all around me to see if anyone was lost with me.
"Hello?" I whispered to a dark figure far in the distance, "Is anyone there?"
I began to freak out when I watched the figure moving towards me. It came closer and closer, and I backed away slowly and cautiously. I had my hands behind me to predict where I was going, to make sure I didn't run into something and fall.
"Hello?" I kept retreating from the figure, mainly because I didn't see a face or anything really, "Who's there?"
I felt behind me until I touched something. I froze in my steps, paralyzed from head to toe. I contemplated between turning around to see what I ran into or just run for it. After all, I didn't know anything about this school. It might have been full of murders and psychos for all I know. Or maybe I was just too paranoid.
I swung around. "Olivia? Why are you so jumpy?" Mr. Knight interrogated, "Why aren't you in class?"
"Uh," I opened my mouth to speak, "I, uh, got lost and then I saw something down there." I pointed to the corridor in front of me, "There's something- or someone- over there."
He turned me back around, his hands held firmly on my shoulders, "Nothing's down there, Olivia. I promise. Now you need to get to class before I have to give you detention."
I smirked at him, "No, you won't."
He eyed me curiously, "Miss Cooper, off to class."
I mocked him by using a fake British accent, "Why of course," I swung around, letting my uniform's skirt wave a little, "sir."
I went back to the map, not looking up or back at William. He didn't believe me about the figure, and I felt discouraged from even glancing at him. How dare he treat me like a fool! And on my first day, no less. My head fumed with rage, but I kept cool in order to find my class.
I saw '11C' imprinted on a door, and I knocked on the door before opening it.
"Oh, come in, come in," An old man said cheerfully, "You must be Olivia Copper."
The man, I assumed to be my teacher, was short and stout like a little leprechaun, minus the the red hair and pointy ears. Instead, he had tiny red ears and black hair with hints of grey near those funny ears.
I walked into the large, college-like classroom. I smiled even though he said my name wrong, "Actually it's Cooper."
"Ah, O's and P's; they're all the same, aren't they?" His quirky attitude seemed to brighten the academy.
I laughed, "Sure. Professor Yates, is it?"
"Why, that's me," He pushed up his tiny glasses to his nose, "Now, here's your schedule. You can sit next to Mason, over there."
