Four months later.
Ignoring the ache in her legs, she jogged up the stairs to the school and entered the hall with a light spring in her step. It took her barely seconds to spot the two girls of her own interest at the lockers and she caught up to both Allison and Lydia. "Good morning," she sang a large smile on her face.
She was wearing a nude-pink short-sleeved shirt which was decorated in tropical flowers. It looked like it came from a silk pyjama set with black borders around the collar and pocket, and it was tucked into a white skirt and she had her usual grey heeled ankle boots on. Her hair was curled perfectly and neatly and she had her usual array of crystal jewellery on along with pearl drop earrings which made the tips of her lobes slightly red from the weight of them. Her make-up had been done in a minimalist fashion but still enough that you could see it.
"You seem cheerful," Allison mused, the three had become fast friends after the incident which was surprising since the way the school year had started was with Lena running from them.
"Of course I am. It's the first day of school, I'm tanned, my hair is compliant, my make-up worked for me, Steve went for his check-up and he is perfectly healthy, I actually know what's going on in the world and It is just a wonderful thing," she explained, "and I checked the timetable for today and I love all the classes. This is my year for happiness, love, and success...and an opportunity to show off my beauty."
"You're also in an outfit which you will freeze to death in," Lydia noted as she looked up and down her friend, "as gorgeous as it is."
Lena didn't care as she stuck out her leg, "I'm tanned," she repeated a few people who were passing by looking at her oddly (she didn't care nor notice them), "and I took up running seriously again so look at my muscle. I have to show it off besides this is actually the equator compared to Scotland so...I'm completely good. Nothing will ruin my day."
She'd also spent the past four months studying all of her mum's books and trialling out different spells. It was a lot harder than it looked which became apparent after she accidentally hit Isaac with some form of a directed shockwave and he'd flown across the forest and there was the time she almost set him on the fire.
"Did you sort stuff out with your dad yet?" Allison asked.
Lena pressed her lips together out of momentary annoyance. The answer to that was no. Forcing the smile back on her face she looked over her two friends, "nothing is going to ruin my day," she repeated just as Lydia looked up towards the halls.
"Freshmen. Tons and tons of fresh men..." she mused as she slammed her locker shut leaning against the wall.
Both Lena and Allison narrowed their eyes at the words, "you mean fresh boys. Lydia, they're fourteen."
"Eh, some are more mature than others," Lydia shrugged.
Lena tilted her head as she thought about the words. In her school back in Scotland you wouldn't even dare date someone who was outside of your year group never mind dating a literal child. "You know, it's okay to be single. Focus on yourself for a little while. Work on becoming a better person."
"Allison, I love you. So, if you need to do that thing where we talk about me and pretend like we're not actually talking about you, it's totally fine." Lena smirked as she glanced over at Allison.
"But I don't want a boyfriend. I want a distraction," she said her eyes throwing towards the door and both Lena and Allison followed her gaze as two boys walked through the halls dressed in leather jackets and holding motorbike helmets.
