"So I have to work... again, so would it be alright if we got together for lunch?" Megan asked while we were grabbing a cup of morning coffee.
"Yeah, it's fine. I've been meaning to text this girl I met on my way here."
I texted Jamie asking her if she wanted to get together and explore the city.
She responded right away saying she couldn't wait.
"You will be fine, right?"
"I'm a big girl now, Megan."
"Your friend can join us for lunch."
"Alright. See you then," I said and she left to run to her work.
Jamie met outside the Olive Garden in Times Square.
"So who is it?" she asked as a greeting.
"Good to see you, too."
"Hi. So who was it?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're glowing, babe. Who was it? Did you already meet someone?"
"I've been in this city for less than 24 hours," I commented.
"So you already knew him?"
"Yeah," I admitted shamefully.
"Ooh, who?"
"Liam."
"Liam... as in the groom?"
"Yeah, the groom."
There was no use in hiding it from her. I just had to tell someone. Beth would kill me. Also, she didn't know I was not a virgin, so I couldn't tell her. Megan was an obvious no, so Jamie seemed like a good person to tell.
I explained my whole history with Liam, and she listened. She just nodded along until I finished.
"This is the part where you tell me how horrible of a person I am," I said once I finished.
"You're not a bad person. You can't control who you love."
"I'm not in love with Liam."
"What's that river in Egypt? Oh right, De-Nile."
"I'm serious. I can't love someone who I haven't see for two years, and who is engaged to someone close to me."
"Well, obviously you can."
"Stop. You're planting weird things into my brain," I half-joked.
"Whatever. Deny all you want. Where are we going?"
"Fifth avenue? We could walk all the way to Central Park."
"Sure."
And we were off.
