Ch.22 - Soulmates See In Black and White Until They Meet

It took him too long to realise that the animosity wasn't aimed at him. However, after a moment it faded and Sky shoved her hands in her pockets, turning and giving a sigh, shaking her head as she did so.

There was a low whistle from behind him and Todoroki whirled, facing a female who sauntered out of the darkness. He could only just make her out, thanks to the lack of light. The nearest streetlights were quite a way off beside the nearest road on the other side of the field.

"You've been following us for a while, can we help you?" The vigilante shone through and there was only frozen irritation in that voice as Sky folded her arms and looked the other down.

"Ah, I'm sorry but we're going to need to borrow your little boyfriend for a moment." Those wicked, amused eyes slid to him. "There's a couple of things we'd like to ask you about. Namely about a certain little group called the Nine Syndicate. Just what does Endeavour's little agency have on them, hmm?"

"The vigilantes?" He blinked, suddenly realising why Sky was keeping back. She didn't have her vigilante gear on her right now and if they'd already seen her... this was going to get very messy if she showed her quirk and the villains put two and two together.

The female out front sauntered a few steps closer with a mocking grin that was a silent warning to give up the information without a fight. Damn... what a situation.

Things weren't looking much better for the other duo. Onyx black was creeping up her cape as she struggled to breathe. Moving and tearing the roots off her would take too long and required too many movements. So Bakugou folded his arms and huffed. "The hell do I care if you take a hostage?"

The surprise that crossed the villain's face was just the opening he needed to launch himself at the one with the roots and knock him straight back. As though the damage to his concentration had weakened his hold on his quirk, the constriction eased. Bakugou took a step back towards Amelia as she broke a wrist out of its hold and tore the roots away from her mouth and throat, breaking out of them and frowning at their opponents.

Bakugou faced them with a devilish grin. "Good. You fuckers came to us."

The burly villain with control over plants was getting up again, his friends now approaching. Not good. He could probably take on a few of them himself, but all four at once might be a problem. Amelia was getting to her feet, but hesitating.

She'd realised it too then... she'd have to do her best without her quirk if she was going to hide her identity from them. Damn vigilante didn't have her dumb sword to rely on now, anyway. If she did, she certainly wasn't reaching for it.

He shot her a look silently telling her to back up but faced the villains again, scowl ever present. "Oi, information for information jackasses. Which vigilantes have you fucking dealt with before."

A look exchanged between them. "A couple of the punks, but a few of them refuse to come out and play." One from behind sighed, holding up a playing card. Amelia froze and Bakugou rose a hand to blast at it before she threw herself at him and they both went sprawlng down into a side alley.

She cursed and grabbed his wrist, yanking him away. "They've seen Fear. If I use my quirk, they'll figure me out."

"The hell? I'm not running from a fight."

The look he got was uncompromising as he yanked his hand back and she tripped him, just before another card went flying over his head. Roots began to heave underneath the pavement and Bakugou blasted down, disintegrating them before they could rise up and snag them.
