Ch.4 - Soulmates Hear the Song the Other is Listening Too
Todoroki had recognised the trouble they were about to be in as soon he heard the tapping and glanced up to find his father there, arms crossed, a note in one hand and the flame beard looking hotter and brighter than normal.
It took him longer than he would've liked to realise that he was on the ground and that his phone was going off and longer still to try and piece together what'd happened and why, exactly, he'd been sleeping on the ground. From the grumble that came from beside him and the sound of shuffling nearby as he got to his feet, he knew Bakugou and Midoriya were getting up too.
Endeavour watched them with the same harsh disapproval he'd watched most of the first year sports festival with. He was definitely annoyed. Actually... that might've been a bit of an understatement.
With a deft gesture to follow, the pro hero turned on his heel and stormed off. The scowl didn't leave his face as he fell into a brisk pace, effectively marching the three students back towards the agency. The trio had the good sense to remain quiet as they followed behind him. Todoroki was trying to figure out what exactly had happened, Midoriya looked mortified and Bakugou seemed like he was keeping his temper on a tight leash.
The ash blonde had an expression to match Endeavour's but his was fuelled by quiet rage at the humiliation of being beaten by a bunch of cocky brats and the stupidest quirk he'd ever come across. How the hell were they even supposed to fight something like that? Then again, getting around those sorts of problems was part of being a hero.
Not a word was spoken on the trip back and Endeavour hadn't deigned to give them any indication of what was coming as he took them through the agency and up to his office. With a curt note to one of his sidekicks that he wasn't to be disturbed unless it was urgent, the pro strode into the huge space and the doors shut behind the students as they waited for whatever judgement was coming their way.
There was a long moment of silence in which the only noise was the crackle and snapping of the fire that illuminated the dark study in rich warm tones at stark odds with the icy atmosphere the hero was giving out.
"Seeing as you're already acquainted," Endeavour started, tone as frigid as his body language as he put the note down on the desk in front of them and the boys didn't dare exchange a look at the obvious insult it was. "You three are now in charge of arresting all members of the Nine Syndicate." His frown deepened as he went on. "Heroes don't get the luxury of making mistakes with real villains. You were lucky the criminals who made fools of you were only vigilantes."
All three of them had the good sense to lower their gazes from the pro, knowing that any hint of a rebellious spirit right now would land them in even deeper trouble than they were already in.
The hard edge to his gaze was unfaltering as he looked at the trio. "The actions of sidekicks reflect on the agency and having you three beaten by a group of ameture vigilantes is a humiliation to everyone here. Make it up by catching the criminals."
They murmured an agreement when Endeavour paused to hear their answer.
"Add any new details to the case files if you can remember anything. Start looking into it first thing tomorrow."
And with that cold dismissal, they took their leave and headed for their own temporary quarters at the agency that they were allowed to use while they were staying, saving them trips back and forth from UA.
As the door to the lift shut, Bakugou's temper finally got the better of him and the pent up anger came out in the form of him cursing out the female who had given him so much trouble. "Stupid cocky-ass vilgilante brat! Who the hell even uses a fucking sword?"
