Ch. 2 - Soulmates Can't Say Each Other's Names

The weekend trip to the little cafe that the stupid Discount Pikachu had dragged them to felt like a world away. The atmosphere at the agency was intense to say the least and over the past few days, the trio of interns had hardly seen the flame hero himself. Not that Todoroki was complaining. Instead, they'd been taking on smaller jobs and helping out sidekicks with the numerous requests flying in and out of the agency.

Burnin was as intense now as when they'd first arrived, that fiery attitude of hers and the level of command she held with the other sidekicks proving to be nearly invaluable to the Number One's agency. At least Bakugou knew he could block out everyone whenever he needed to. Still, as annoying as some of the sidekicks were, some of their advice was valuable. Enough so that he hadn't resorted to muting the world for some peace and quiet.

Despite the mundane jobs, the ash blonde hero hadn't been able to catch a break. Irritation made him antsy as he headed back towards the sort of 'secretary' sidekicks who managed the various members in the agency, seeing who was available for which jobs and handling giving those requests to the right teams of sidekicks.

"Damn, I can't believe we lost the case."

Bakugou slowed, following behind the two sidekicks who seemed to be heading to the same department. From what he could tell, he believed they were two of the more senior sidekicks at the agency, often engaging with and reporting to Endeavour directly.

"That's how it is," the other sighed, keeping his voice down. "Given the issues with cases when they cross borders and become international, it's only natural. They told us to drop it as soon as we reported we had reason to suspect it was going out of the country."

"So what's the solution then? Let the kids get thrown into a life of misery for the sake of some legal red tape?" The other hissed, voice raising ever so slightly in emotion before there was a quiet warning from the other and the tone of their conversation became too quiet for Bakugou to hear without walking too close. Besides, they were nearly there.

A case had been dropped due to trouble with it going overseas? Given the current big cases at the agency and one that involved children... that would make it-

One of the elevators opened in the corridor between the two main areas on the ground floor and Bakugou only caught a glimpse of the figure who walked out but it was enough to arouse his own suspicions.

Checking back in and getting the next assignment was a chore and to make everything worse... he was supposed to be taking on some shitty boring escort mission with both the damn nerd and Icy-Hot bastard.

So he headed back out to where the teams of sidekicks usually gathered to prepare before moving out to complete their given task, finding that he was the last one there. Bakugou frowned at the two other students talking and being all chummy. They weren't there to have a picnic, they were there to improve.

"Shut the hell up," the Bakugou snapped, letting the bite in his tone show. "What're you rambling on about, anyway?"

"Oh, that..." Midoriya mumbled after swiftly apologising and holding up his hands passively at being caught for his habit again. Leashing the temper that flared at the fact that the nerd was hiding something, he was about to step forward and act quite unprofessionally in letting that irritation show, when the third voice of their trio cut in.

"We just overheard a conversation is all." Todoroki explained. Or rather, didn't.

Knowing that trying to drag the relevant details out of the half and half hero was painful and infuriating, those carmine eyes slid to Midoriya who flinched at being the focus on Bakugou's curiosity.
