Ch.30 - If A Soulmate Gets A Cut, The Other Has A Flower Bloom In That Spot On Them
After the conversation last night, they'd agreed to their friends that they would try and speak with their soulmates and sort things out. Bakugou had grumbled that he'd do it just to get the others off his back, but everyone knew that really he knew he needed to do it for himself. They still let him tell himself it was because of their nagging.
Still, it had been far too late in the evening for them to go last night. At least the others had acknowledged that much. So they'd agreed that they'd go the following afternoon after the café opened. Bakugou had called and asked Kaminari if he wanted to go along, but the electric hero had shot him down, saying he had no inclination of getting banned again if Ash was in.
Kirishima had to suppress a chuckle at the soft quip, but at least it sparked Bakugou's temper off as the boy spat that he shouldn't have bothered asking. Sero was smiling though as he went through some English homework with Jirou and Mina. At least the hot temper was better than whatever numb state Bakugou had been in until last night.
Even though it looked like he hadn't slept. Again.
Todoroki had been waiting downstairs when he appeared, as though the other had been unable to sit still while thinking about what was to come. He could only hope it'd go well. The damn Night Light had better hear him out after what she's said last time, too.
At least the weather was holding. Though it was clouded over, there was no rain to ruin Bakugou's already souring mood. It was getting worse the closer they got to the cafe.
Why the hell was he even feeling nervous? All that needed to be said was that even if things were rocky, he'd reconsider completely rejecting the bond. He wasn't going to ask her to another date, or anything stupid like that. But maybe... at least he wanted there to be no bad blood between them.
He needed to stop holding his own grudges for that, too.
The Half and Half said nothing on the way there and he was silently grateful that they didn't need to talk. Warm, creamy light was spilling from the café onto the pavement outside and Bakugou opened the door. The bell didn't chime.
Panic flared through Bakugou; she was there. She was waiting on a table so close to them, talking softly with two teenagers who gave her smiles in return. When she looked back up he thought he might have stopped breathing.
Shit. Shit. What was he supposed to-
Then she was turning towards the albino maid Kaminari was so fond of. Her name had been called. He was about to call out, when a hint of movement caught his eye. The two half pints who played gatekeepers for the establishment had come to stand in front of them. Chiyo was frowning and Ash had her arms folded. He could nearly feel the aggression pouring off the brunette.
"Get out." Chiyo told them and the tone left no room for negotiation.
He was about to snap right back, his own temper firing up in response, but Todoroki thankfully beat him to words. "We just want to talk to them."
Ash snorted in disbelief and Bakugou nearly snapped then and there. Damn... he'd really been wound up since things had gone wrong. Since he'd started feeling something again at the idea that he might get to talk to Amelia again.
"You've got some damn nerve if you think you get to show up like this and demand to see them. Now piss off," Ash hissed. There was a tension between both Chiyo and Ash he hadn't noted before.
If they were in a bad mood, that wasn't his damn problem. He was here to fix his, not make new ones.
Todoroki blinked, looking out across the tables and at the staff operating normally. He noticed two, and neither bothered to respond to Ash as they took it in, feeling Chiyo's patience slipping the longer they observed. Luca had appeared from the kitchen, Reiki taking his place. Sky's head popped out, and Bakugou felt the air cool slightly beside him but refrained from calling the other out. Not when Amelia smiled and took a tray from Sky, gaze turning as she moved to walk back to the table just beside them.
