a/n: can we PLEASE talk about how good they look here?^^^ look at ash and luke's cheeks ugh
here we meet lil insecure luke:(
hi this is only short but i've been SWAMPED with exams and have been really struggling to find time to write. i'll try to get the next chapter out soon :)
Charlie and Luke ended up falling asleep like that. They woke up the next day at around ten. Charlie was the first one up, surprisingly. However, unsurprisingly, she decided to stay in bed until Luke woke up. When he did, the first thing he did was smile at her. She smiled back and kissed him on the cheek before getting out of the bed.
"Let me make you breakfast, today," she offered but Luke looked worried, "same as yesterday so don't worry, I won't mess it up. You just stay right here and I'll be back." And then she walked out of the room.
Luke sat there bored until he decided to play some guitar whilst waiting. His fingers lightly strummed the strings as he played the chords. Getting lost in himself, he started to sing.
"Take me back to the middle of nowhere.
Back to the place only you and I share
Remember all the memories?
The fireflies and make-believe
Kicking back in the old schoolyard
Singing songs on our guitars
This is our reality
Crazy stupid, you and me."His fingers tapped the guitar lightly.
"We know this is the way we're supposed to be,
So we're taking the long way home
'Cause I don't wanna be wasting my time alone
I wanna get lost and drive forever with you
Talking 'bout nothing, yeah, whatever, baby
So we're taking the long way home tonight."He heard a long gasp and looked up to see Charlie standing there with a look of shock etched on her face. She giddily ran over to him with his food in her hands.
"That was so good, Luke. Where'd you learn to play guitar?" She asked, placing the food on his lap. He shrugged.
"Me and the boys are in a band," he admitted with a sheepish smile. "It's called Five Seconds of Summer. I'm the lead singer, Cal's bassist, Mikey's lead guitarist and Ash is drums."
"Have you ever thought about record labels or something like that? You're way too good to be doing it for fun, Luke."
"I didn't realise I was that good," he said with a laugh. Luke had a tendency to put himself down with these types of things. He was very used to selling himself short.
"Seriously? Luke, you're amazing. I can't believe you would think any different."
"The boys have always wanted to be in a proper band, always dreamt of being famous. I never really saw it myself. Like sure, I guess I'm good but never enough to end up famous, y'know? You really think I could make it there, Char?" He asked and Charlie could tell he was crawling into his shell. Luke didn't like to talk about his feelings. He knew he was insecure, he knew he wasn't confident but he didn't want to talk about it. Charlie was going to help him love himself.
"I wish you could see what I see, Luke, hear what I hear. Gosh, I wish I had your talents. Don't sell yourself so short, love," the use of the pet name brought a shy smile onto Luke's face. He found himself falling more and more each day. He was doomed from the start.
"Thank you, Charlie."
He used the boost of confidence Charlie had given him to lean forward and plant a kiss on her forehead. He pulled away and they both shared huge smiles.
"You're too kind," he said, quietly. She was going to grin but frowned when she realised he meant it as if he thought she was lying.
"I'm telling the truth, Luke. You know that right?" She asked, hoping his answer would be a yes. He gave her a small shrug though.
"It's not as if I don't want to believe you, Charlie. I just can't. Almost as if it's physically impossible for me to, do you understand what I mean?" She could tell he was becoming more shy with the more he talked so she decided to change the subject - kind of.
"I have an idea," she said, getting out of his bed and heading out of the room. She returned with a notebook and pen in hand and handed it over to him.
"What's this for?"
"I want you to write a bucket list," she smiled at him, "right now." She said again. "Write down every single thing you want to do and achieve in life and I swear, we'll do it."
"I don't know-"
"Luke," she said more sternly this time, "write them down."
He started scribbling down everything that came to mind. Charlie encouraged him to write whatever, even if it was a silly one. He wrote down everything for five minutes before finally showing her the list.
Luke's Bucket List!
• go cliff jumping
• go sky diving
• try escargot
• try frog legs
• ride a horse
• visit as many countries as possible
• go bungee jumping
• hot air balloon
• see the northern lights
• swim with dolphins
• swim with sharks
• become more confident
• become a famous singer ♡He lifted the notepad and showed her his options. She grinned, widely.
"I'll do all of these with you. How does that sound?"
He hummed in response. Suddenly, an idea came to mind. He quickly took the notepad back off her and scribbled one more idea. He didn't show her this one.
"What's that say, Luke?" She asked, curiously. He tried to lean over and see what he had written but he wouldn't let that happen so easily.
"You'll find out... Hopefully," was all he said as he retracted his hands away from her.
She hummed a response before crawling under the covers.
"You really wanna try escargot? I tried it once when I went to a posh restaurant when I was nine and the next thing you know, I'm heaving up my insides in a French toilet," she said with a laugh and he joined in.
"My mum praises it, I'm curious. But now that you've said that, you've completely turned me off ever trying snails."
She shook her head at him with a laugh, "even though I despise the stuff, I'll go through all the retching so you don't have to do it alone."
"Sooo romantic," he teased but instantly felt the awkward tension fill the air. She ignored it though and just snuggled in to the boy. Funny how she could cuddle him but couldn't admit that it was anything more than a friendship.
"Teen wolf?" She asked him, praying he wouldn't act weird around her now.
"Of course."
