I woke up to the smell of bacon. I love my bacon, especially on a Saturday morning. I almost got up, when my dad slowly opened the door, putting something on the ground gently, but I couldn't see what. Then, an adorable German Shepherd jumped on my bed, licking my face once it did.
"Oh my gosh! Dad! I love her! What are we naming her?" I asked. I've always wanted a dog, but mom was allergic. Still petting her, I heard him say, "She's your dog, not ours. You name her. You take care of her. You will have to pay for the food and pick up her poop. But she's yours. She's one year old, but I made sure to get a girl and one that will sleep with you. You can name her. What will it be?"
What do you name something that you've wanted your whole life? Hmmm... "Penny. Her name's Penny." When I said her name her head perked up and she licked me again. "I'd say that's a good choice. Now, Violet wanted to pick you up to do something, and she said to where sweats and a t-shirt, okay? She'll pick you up around ten." Dad said. "And, Sam?" "Yeah, dad?" "Happy seventeenth birthday, baby girl." He said with tears in his eyes. "Thank you," I said while hugging him.
I got ready, checking on Penny every minute. She was laying on my bed, sleeping. I finally finished breakfast when Violet pulled up. She was in a pick-up with a boy I'd say a year or two older than her. I walked out of the house, telling dad bye, and asked her,"Tell me you didn't already get a boyfriend. PLEASE." "Nope! Sorry." "Good." We got in the pick-up and she said,"This is my brother, Allen. Allen, this is Sam." "Hi." I said, giggling at the text I received from Sarah.
Sarah: Hey, old fart. Sorry I couldn't be there to make plans for your funeral, but I decided to wish you a happy birthday anyway. ;)
Me: Just remember, your birthday is only a few months after mine! :P And thank you!
"Hi." A deep voice startled me. "Happy birthday!" Violet almost yelled. "Thanks!" I replied. "I got a German Shepherd." "We know. The mom is our German Shepherd." She said, smiling. "What'd you name her?" The deep voiced Allen asked. "Penny." I told him. "That's exactly what I named her before she left!" He exclaimed. "Cool!" I said as we pulled up to the Big Apple. "Laser Tag, here we come!" Violet screamed while getting out of the pick-up.
Laser Tag was a blast. We pulled up to the house around five, and I felt bad for leaving my dad alone, but I had had a ton of fun. I looked to the right. "Eric's back!" I exclaimed, running to the house. Violet wasn't far behind, neither was Allen. I flew open the door as everyone yelled, "Surprise!" I looked around. "Mom!" I hugged her tightly. "Eric!" I went over and hugged him as well. "Sis, go get changed." He whispered in my ear as I nodded. "Be right back!" I yelled. I ran to my room, but stopped dead in my tracks at the door.
"You know, I think this lava lamp could use some polishing..."
