ANDREA POV

She really needed a good swim, to wash away all her bad thoughts. As I laughed at her squirming in the water, I realized that she was struggling to stay afloat. Fuck. I threw my backpack off and took off my shirt, diving into the cold stream.

I swam towards her and grabbed her. Her face was plastered with a kind of fear I hadn't seen before.

"Hey, it's okay, I got you." Helping her stay close to me, I brought us back to shore. She quickly scurried out and stepped away from me.

"Look, I'm-"

"Don't talk." She manages to croak. Her hair is soaked, and so are all her clothes. She sits on a big rock under the sun.

"Because of your stupid, childish ways, I just lost my whole backpack in the water." She sounds angry.

"Well, I didn't know that the Devyn Ackerman, Princess of Orien, hot shot of Arden, didn't know how to swim." I start to laugh again, but as I look at her I see that her face scrunches up for a few seconds, and then pain lingers. She gets up, and take off her shirt, revealing her sculpted abs.

"I don't get it. You are physically fit, how do you not know how to swim?" I'm genuinely curious about this because at Arden they have swimming lessons, and you must pass through to go to the next year.

"It doesn't concern you." She lets her hair down, and the droplets falling from her hair travel down her body. Her eyes glisten under the sun, and her jaw looks sharper than a knife. I'd almost call her beautiful, gorgeous even, if she wasn't such a bitch.

"Do you want clothes?" I offer as I walk to my pack.

"No. I don't want anything from you."

"Then what are you going to wear? You're going to get sick."

"Don't worry about me." She rolls up her shirt and squeezes it so the water gets out.

"I'm not worrying, suit yourself."

"The sun is about to go down."

"Mhmm. Follow me. We need to find a place to crash for the night. I doubt anyone is going to find us here."

"I'm not following you."

"Okay." I grab my things and head back into the forest. On the way to the stream I had seen a small clearing, so I went to go look for it again. Devyn was still not following me, can she just swallow her pride for one day?

"It's through there." I turn around to see her walking toward me.

"I see." She walks past me and I follow and soon we're standing in the clearing.

I take out two blankets from my pack and stack them on each other, then I proceed to lay down, taking out a protein bar. Devyn sits farther away from me, with her arms wrapped around her knees. She was probably cold, because the temperature was going down.

"Do you want some?" I offer her my protein bar.

"No." She growls.

"God, you are so hard to deal with." I take one blanket and throw it to her.

"I said I don't want it." As she finishes her sentence, we hear a twig crack in the distance.

"What was that?" Goosebumps form all over my body.

"Probably some animal." She says unbothered.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see an antelope appear out of the trees. It walks towards me, and my body is petrified.
