a/n: just so you know i'm gonna keep the sengoku-crush a bit vague, i don't want to specify y/n's feelings since she herself cannot sort through them properly (and this book isn't about sengoku!!)
it's just there to propel the plot forward and give a motive for the main conflict, which you'll discover soon enough.
aand i'm not saying if she really liked sengoku or if it was a minor infatuation with how he'd act outside of the council bc teehee c;

. . .

after the talk with ayasaki, you felt lighter as a whole, but slightly weighed down by a heavy heart. don't be pathetic, you repeated in your head. sometimes you had to take the fall to avoid any other drama.

and, although you didn't want to admit it, you didn't want to lose remi. the loss of remi's charismatic aura in your life would be worse than being deprived of that bubbly feeling of being beside the president. plus, it'd give the school another couple to look at.

it isn't the type of popularity you want. you repeated.

the next day, remi seemed to be happier, too. she was hardly skeptical of your statement and just laughed lightheartedly with an, "i know!"

however, you couldn't help but wonder if she was backing away from sengoku because she still believed you liked him. it was very obvious that she was slowly drawing away from his company.

anyways, you hoped that the whole "sengoku and (y/n) couple goals" infatuation would fade away soon. it was tiring to respond to the same questions with the same answers every day of the week. and remi definitely didn't like the way you were getting attention.

she claimed it was because the rumors are false and they should stop harassing the student council about it, but you knew it was more than that. you knew her and sengoku used to be close, and you knew she was afraid of being replaced in that sense.

you told her you couldn't do anything more about the circulating rumors and next thing you knew, you were visiting the surrounding classes to find out what gossip had been going on in there. after the rumors of you and sengoku quieted a bit, remi insisted that you check other classes to ensure they weren't making stuff up on their own.

so, there you were. tl;dr, you're standing at classroom 3-1, making sure they're not going on about the council and their private lives behind your backs.

you were surprised to see that nobody acted on your appearance. they all seemed indulged in something else. you discreetly listened in on a group of girls' conversation, picking up few words.

"really... he seems..."

"right?"

"... dark otaku."

"so gloomy..."

"... scary..."

"creepy nerd ...?"

you sighed in relief. at least it wasn't about you and sengoku. you'd hate to see poor remi's heart shatter any more. but part of you couldn't help but wonder who this "scarily dark, gloomy, creepy nerd otaku" was.

just as you were about to leave, however, your ear caught on yet another string of gossip.

"miyamura-kun's too solitary to have friends, let alone a girlfriend."

even the boys were in on this. you still had no idea how that had come up.

you didn't let it plague your mind any further and exited the classroom, heading back to the student council room. however, as you were leaving, something caught your eye.

a boy with dark hair framing his face just as his glasses did. despite the warm weather, he was wearing his winter outfit. he seemed as if he was from another world.

. . .

"anything?"

"nope, the rumors seem to have finally fizzled out," you replied to remi, sighing in relief alongside her. she let out a little 'eep' as the noise escaped her, revealing her crush even more. you pretended to ignore it.

"i'm glad you won't be harassed by them any longer, (y/n)!"

"i am, too, remi-san."

i'm glad you're still here with me, remi.
