I stand there, clutching Eri's tiny hand as I ponder on what could happen when I walk in there. My main idea was to just go in and go out, but now I'm wondering if I should go in at all... Wait no. Fluffy and Dragon are in there.
I tense up until I feel a tug on my hand. I look down to see the girl staring up at me. "Are you okay?" Her voice is sweet and... Shiny almost if that was a word you could use to describe a sound.
I nod. "I'm fine. Just... Don't let go of my hand until we're in my hand, okay?"
She nods. "Don't worry, I'll keep you safe."
I chuckle, realizing she knows that I'm afraid to enter the house. I try relaxing my shoulders before taking my first couple of steps up the trail leading up to the porch. I make myself continue until we're eventually going up the steps and finally reach the door.
"I wonder if the fed my animals." I whisper as I press the doorbell.
Eri looks up at me again. "You have animals?"
I smile. "Yeah. Mirio actually gave them to me a long time ago. Him and another friend."
I'm trying so hard to control my tics because I don't want to unsettle Eri. Finally, I hear footsteps. The door opens to reveal one of my foster brothers. His eyes instantly shoot to Eri.
"You have a daughter now?" He asks.
I deadpan. "Yes. Yes, I have a daughter, Kei. Aren't you supposed to be at school?"
He shakes his head. "We woke up late because you usually wake us up, so we were late and decided to stay home anyways. Guys!!! Y/N has a daughter!!!" Kei yells into the house. Instantly, there's a stampede of children rushing down the stairs. "Why weren't you here yesterday? They called and said you were released from the hospital." He continues, letting us in.
I walk in, looking around and Eri moves behind my leg as the other kids come to inspect.
I guess she didn't tell them yet. "I had some stuff to do at school. I came by to pick up some stuff." I reply to Kei.
"What's her name?" Another kid asks.
"Eri. Guys, shoo. I need to get to my room." I say, moving past them.
Kei follows us as we leave the others behind. "Are you leaving again? When are you coming back?"
I glance at him. "Kei..." I pause as we make our way up the stairs. "Look. Y'know what happened to Shoya?"
His eyes turn a bit sad. We enter my room and I kneel in front of the boy. "Your foster parents don't really want me here anymore because of that."
"But-... It wasn't your fault." He says, eyes watering.
My heart jerks at those words. "Kei... You're gonna be the oldest out of them. You're gonna have to watch after them, wake them up for school, feed them when the foster parents aren't here. You need to do these things for me and for them. I came here to get my stuff because I'm not welcome here anymore."
A tear rolls down the boy's face. "But why can't you stay? It wasn't your fault."
"I'm sorry. But I have to go. I'll leave my number for you so you can call me whenever you need to, but I'm afraid this is what needs to happen. Okay?" I say, wiping the tears off his face.
He nods. "I'm gonna miss you."
I smile before hugging him. "I'll miss you too. Now can you help me pack?"
He nods. "There's boxes downstairs. I'll go get them."
"Thankyou." I say before he dashes off.
I turn back to Eri who has found Fluffy and is staring at him. I chuckle. "You wanna pet him?"
