beautiful pain

He wanted
the sun
and the moon

She wanted
his happiness
and nothing more

She offered her heart;
but he refused it

He let his averacious greed consume him
and he rode into the sun
with the moon looming behind him
riding along the canvas of space

She was miniscule
between the sun and the moon
she was but a spec;
she was invisible
so she slipped away

When he finally had
the sun and the moon
in the palm of his callous hand,
his dark eyes
twinkled with triumph,
lips curled to a cocky smirk

he turned
to give her
the sun
and the moon
but she was gone

He searched the universe
until his taut muscles burned
until his breath came out ragged
until his knees gave in
until his sun and moon withered away
until his heart ached and yearned for something.
Something worth more
than the sun
than the moon;
Her love
