I woke up and sat up quickly.

All I could see was whiteness and I had no idea where I was.

As my vision cleared, I could see that I was in a hospital room.

Why would I be in a hospital room?

Then the events of yesterday flooded back into my mind.

He was there.

Brendan.

I looked at my arm and there was a pink cast from my shoulder to my hand and it was in a sling. My throat was dry and I coughed which made it even drier.

"She's awake." I heard a voice say from outside the door.

A nurse came in with a cup of water and a pill. Following her was a man dressed in black. Almost like the guy in the car that was in my dream. I'm not sure if that dream was real or not because I remember that event so vividly but I would never ever yell at my dad like I did.

"Hello!" the man said frustrated because he had obviously been trying to get my attention.

"Sorry, I was lost in thought." I said with my voice scratching because my mouth was still dry.

"Do you know what happened in the cafeteria?" He asked for what sounded like the third time.

"Ummm...no." I answered.

"Do you know how you hurt your arm?" he asked.

"No" I said and he scribbled some things down in his notebook.

"Do you know the name of the male who got shot?" the man said.

"Why are you asking so many questions?" I said to him with a hint of attitude in my voice.

"Just answer my question!" He said gritting his teeth.

" No."

I turned to face the wall so he wouldn't ask me anymore questions.

"She doesn't seem to remember of of the past occurrences in the last day, and she won't remember this either after she takes that, which is good." The man said.

I honestly remembered what happened in the cafeteria and what that boy's name was but I didn't like to answer annoying interrogates.

I heard the door open and the nurse walked over to me.

"Well then, here's a pill to ease the pain and then you are good to go." the nurse said handing me the pill and water.

"Ok." I said to her and put the pill in my mouth and sipped some water in my mouth. Once the nurse had turned to face the other way, I took the pill out of my mouth and swallowed the water. Not in a million years would I believe that the pill was a pain reliever. Even the weird guy dressed in black said it would make me forget what happened today.

The nurse turned back around and in her hands were my clothes. I didn't even notice that I was wearing a hospital gown!

"Here are your clothes you can change back into and when you are done, knock on your door." she said to me with an almost sympathetic smile. She started walking out the door when I said

"Mrs., where is my mom?"

"Oh darling, she is coming to pick you up in a few minutes. You just need to go gather your textbooks and go to the office." the nurse said and closed the door behind herself.

Why would my textbooks be in the hospital and why would my mom not have come and seen me?"

Once I was alone, I put the pill into my jeans and pulled them on.

I took off my necklace and put it on the nightstand.

Instead of my lasagna-covered shirt, Vanessa's sweater was folder on top off shoes.

I thought I looked kind of silly with high heels and a sweater but that was all I had right now.

A knock on the door startled me and I heard the nurse's voice saying to me "Honey, are you alright? You've been in there for ten minutes."

"Yes." I said as I opened the door.

"Much better! Except for the shoulder of course." she said laughing.

The nurse led me to the end of the hallway and into a little room which looked like a check-up room. She opened a door which led into another hallway. But this time the school hallway.

I must have been in the nurse's office the whole time!
