I swear I saw a tear fall from his eyes.
I felt so bad saying that but I couldn't bring myself to lie.
"Oh, well I should probably go then." Brendan said starting to turn away.
"No, don't go!" I said a little to hastily. "Do you remember?"
"Yes."
_______________
Flashback begins
_______________We were both inside a shop in the mall. As I pretended to be interested in some purses, my adrenaline was kicking in because this was my first mission.
The target walked by looking oblivious to us as he looked at us.
But the thing is, he wasn't oblivious to us. The first time he saw us he barely even looked past us.
The second time however, he picked up his pace.
We followed him at a distance, our cover being a happy couple.
I pretend we actually are a couple, and not some spies on a mission to track down this guy with the only training that I received being over one week of after school courses.
Anxiety picked up inside me and I sped up.
"Don't go faster!" he said taking my hand to keep me at his pace.
I tried to calm down and I saw him turn the corner and bump into someone.
He quickly say sorry and kept walking. But it wasn't an accident.
It was a brush pass. And our objective was to get what he had.
The new target kept walking towards the exit and passed through the doors.
"Are you going to get the other guy?" I asked Brendan.
"No, because we are supposed to stay together, remember?" he answered as we exited the mall. We were about ten feet behind the target when Brendan pulled me to the right and we walked in between cars.
The target got into a van and quickly started the car.
Brendan pulled out his phone as the target drove off.
"What are you doing?!" I said in a harsh whisper.
Brendan stood there on his phone as I waited impatiently for him to answer.
Just as I was about to yell at him he pulled open the car door next to me and motioned for me to get in.
I did and he got in the drivers seat hastily.
He started the engine and within 30 seconds we were speeding down the highway passing all the cars around us.
"So, who's car is this?" I asked because it wasn't the car we had taken to get to this mall that was in the middle of no where.
"I don't know." Brendan said with his forehead scrunched from concentration.
"Then how are you driving it without keys?" I asked utterly confused.
"I hacked it. Really easy to do because all the cars these days are connected to Internet and with the right technology you can control almost all of the car." he said with a 'I can't believe you didn't know that' face.
"Oh, didn't learn that yet." I said laughing even though it wasn't funny.
We could see the van now and both cars were going well over 100mph swerving around the regular drivers on the highway.
This chase was getting more and more dangerous as we went one more and one more mph.
It's only been about a minute of chasing him but I feel like 10 people have already called the cops on us.
We were only about thirty feet behind the can when Brendan took a gun out of his pocket.
I didn't know where this scenario was going as I watched Brendan open the window and held the gun outside.
We were going 130mph when Brendan shot the bumper of the van.
We almost hit a regular car going 70mph but Brendan swerved off the highway.
I breathed out and I didn't realize I was holding my breath.
"We lost him!" I said annoyed that I had utterly failed my first mission.
Brendan smirked as he said
"No we didn't. I shot a tracker into his car." Brendan said smirking. "It wouldn't have been smart to just chase him because he would never have gone to where ever his current headquarters are but now he will return to his headquarters and that's exactly what we needed.""Oh, so mission accomplished?" I asked hopefully.
"Mission accomplished!" He confirmed.
