"I REALLY APPRECIATE NEW BUSINESS, BUT YOU'VE ONLY PAID FOR AN HOUR OF MY TIME, AND I HAVE TO BE BACK AT THE ORCHID."
All six of them briskly walked through the streets to Dressen's manor, each group sticking to their side, not fully trusting the other yet. They mainly walked in silence as Milana had been the only one speaking for the past ten minutes, still rather shaken that one of her clients had been murdered against her but not as shaken as Aleksandra assumed she'd be.
In other words, Aleksandra found the girl to be quite the airhead as the beloved heartrender had no clue what was going on tonight, she wasn't sure if Milana even knew what was going on ever.
"The Orchid isn't safe tonight. Your life's in danger with this job." Kaz told her. "Make yourself scarce for a few days afterwards."
"Mr Brekker, are you threatening me? Really?"
"Even if I'm nice, my boss will call the stadwatch on you."
Kaz stopped and turned on his heel to face the confused heartrender. "It's not me you're in danger with." He said sternly. "It's Pekka Rollins."
"My boss would call the stadwatch on him as well." She told him. Aleksandra chuckled at how naive she was, the girl not knowing the extent of how dangerous the people she was with were.
"Which is why your boss is already dead." Kaz swiftly finished the conversation darkly, turning back around to walk towards the gate.
Aleksandra wrapped her arm around Milana's shoulder. "Don't worry, I wouldn't let Rollins lay a finger on your pretty hair," Aleksandra said, raking her fingers through Milana's blonde hair as the two watched Kaz advance towards the gate.
"Who are you lot?" The guard asked them as he made his closer to the gate.
"We're here to see Dreesen," Kaz spoke.
"You're not with Pekka's crew." The guard asked, looking them up and down.
"And you're not in Pekka's pocket anymore if you don't owe him." Kaz threw the sack of coins at the guard who swiftly caught it. The guard looked down at the sack, impressed with its contents before opening the gates, allowing the crew of bandits into the premises.
"Hey," She heard Jesper whisper into Kaz's ear. "where did you get that coin?"
Aleksandra stiffened, ushering Milana ahead of her as she turned to look at the guard who was closely inspecting the coins.
"Hey!" The guard yelled, holding the sack of coins high in the air. causing everyone in the group to turn around. Aleksandra bit her lip but continued to walk towards the door as a man inside had opened it, making sure that Darling was close behind her. "One of these has a hole in it!"
"Inside. Inside." She heard Kaz beckon.
They all piled inside the grand house. Aleksandra was used to such lavish living, having spent the majority of her teen years in a luxurious palace. Darling, on the other hand, marvelled at the sight. Her jaw hanging low as her eyes soared over all the expensive painting, resisting the urge to trail her fingers along with the antiqued furniture as they travelled through the corridors.
Darling only stopped wondering at the luxury when she felt Aleksandra glaring at her, burning holes at the side of her head as Aleksandra felt like her protégé was making a right fool of herself.
Aleksandra stood next to Kaz as the doors swung open, all six of them piling into the room in a coordinated manner.
"One look and I can tell." Dressen turned and pointed his finger at the lot of them. "Criminals." He firmly stated. "I'm not meeting anyone 'til midnight."
"We heard you needed a Heartrender," Kaz spoke.
Milana wiggled her fingers at Dressen but Aleksandra smacked them down, glaring at the heartrender from the corner of her eye, watching Milana as she rubbed her fingers.
Dressen stood up from his seat and watched all six of them intently, well five if you minus Milana.
"All right." He curled his lip, tutting his teeth. "She stays, the rest of you, out." He said, without breaking eye contact with Kaz.
"She stays and we have an exclusive on this job."
"Mr Brekker," Dressen grunted as he walked around his table, his hands firmly behind his back. "No businessman worth his salt hires his first applicant." Aleksandra eyed him closely as he sat down on his desk in a lax manner.
"No. No, I understand." Kaz started, narrowing his eyes at Dressen. "Of course, I will have to report you to the guild for kidnapping and harbouring a prisoner without the chain of title."
Aleksandra turned to look at Darling in hopes that she knew what Kaz meant by 'kidnapping and harbouring a prisoner.' Darling shrugged, equally unaware of what Kaz was talking about. She nodded at her, turning back around to look at Dressen.
His finger was sliding along the side of his robe, revealing a revolver that was nearly fooled in its holster, a relatively newer model that could do rather hefty damage to a person. Aleksandra had wanted the model for a while but she figured it wasn't the gun that mattered, it was the person behind it that did.
Aleksandra signalled at Darling to lower her weapon as she hadn't seen the man ahead of her a threat in any way shape or form.
"You wouldn't," Dressen said, looking up at Kaz with weary eyes.
"No businessman worth his salt bargains for what he can take."
Silence fell over the group as Dressen approached Kaz, the buts of their nose practically touching. He inhaled deeply before exhaling, humming as he intently inspected him. His eyes trailed off slightly as looked down at Aleksandra who held her head high. She didn't turn to meet his eye, but rather looked at him from her peripheral vision.
Dressen looked her up and down, unsure of whether she ran the pack alongside Kaz or if she was also an escort, who was forcibly taken to run alongside them. She turned to meet his eye and smirked at him, giving him a rather flirty wink as she jerked her shoulder forward.
"I have to be back in an hour." She heard Milana speak behind her.
If it wasn't for her helpless demeanour and the fact that she was the root to get their one million kruge, Aleksandra would've shot her by now, sick and tired of the girl's incessant cluelessness.
"All right, come on." Dressen decided, walking past the lot of them.
