Every eye followed Nathan the entire day. His heart hammered in his chest when people began to whisper about him, calling out insults. He felt an odd tug at his chest, looking around. He could feel papers and spit balls being tossed his way.
He decided not to tell Elliot about it, not wanting him to get into trouble because he decided to take revenge. The last thing he needed was for him to get hurt.
As he walked, things became a little more physical. His teammates shoved him around, laughing at him. He kept his eyes down unil he ran ran into someone. The dark haired boy froze, looking up. His blurs eyes scanning the other in front of him. It's was David, only this time his hand was bandaged and wrapped up.
"Look who it is... Nathan Acetarium.. What a nice surprise." He growled, baring his teeth.
Nathan broadened his shoulders. "What do you want asshat?" He refused to be intimidated.
"You and your little sex toy are gonna fucking pay. Did you see what he did to my hand!? Broke it in cold blood."
Nathan rolled his eyes. "He didn't break it! You punched the fucking door."
David crowded him against the lockers, grabbing his shirt and pushing him close by his neck. "If he doesn't watch himself he's gonna get himself killed. You too." He threatened, his breath got on Nathan's face.
Coughing, he shoved David away. "Brush your teeth sometime!"
It wasn't a second later that David was on top of his and an all out fist fight had broken out in the hallway.
When the teacher came around, she found Nathan pinned under David. She hauled him off to the principal and let Nathan limp off to the nurse.
That night as he slept, he was haunted by those faces and the voices of the people that had once been his friend. A pain twisted in his chest when he thought about Elliot, which was unusual because his brown eyes used to calm him down and make him feel safe. He wanted to tell him that he needed him here and that he just needed someone to hold him but he figured he'd better not bother him.
God he just needed his boyfriend right now.
-:-When Elliot kissed him the next day, the joy he usually felt was masked by the pain he'd felt the other day.
"I heard what happened," Elliot started. "David is an ass and you shouldn't pay any attention to him, of anyone for that matter."
"Is this what it was like when you first came out?"
He shifted. "That's what it's been like ever since." Ell shrugged and rubbed his neck. "Doesn't matter. We graduate in a month baby... Then it's just you and me and it's going to be amazing."
"Yeah.." Nate sighed and bit his lip, not really looking up.
"Nate? Baby you okay?" He asked softly and took his hand.
Nathan nodded and pulled away, stepping off to the side. "I've got extra baseball training this week so I won't be able to hang out with you after school."
"Oh." Elliot's frowned. "Okay... Well this weekend then. And then we can go to the Cherry Blossom festival on Tuesday!"
"Sure yeah." He nodded and kept his hands to himself as they walked, keeping his distance from Elliot and praying he wouldn't notice. He loved Elliot he really did but right now he needed to figure some things out.
"You want me to walk you to class?" Elliot asked softly, catching the other off guard.
"N-no I just.. Umm... I gotta go." He stuttered and ran off without a trace.
