The average cycle passed for Elliot thought the week and he felt extremely nervous about it all. Something was wrong, Nathan was being distant, too distant and it scared him but his boyfriend reassured him with kisses and whispered promises.
With prom just a week away Elliot knew him and Nathan needed to get together to make a plan for it so at the end of the day on Friday, Ell decided he'd pay Nathan a visit at practice to sort it all out.
He made his way to the field to find that not a single person was there. No practice was taking part and no baseball training was happening. Elliot's searched around, growing concerned and angry.
Nathan lied to him? Since when did Nathan lie!? Sure they'd snuck out a few times to parties and lied to their parents about what was going on bit not once did they lie to one another. At least Elliot didn't think so.
As he walked around, he heard some people laughing, chanting and went over to see what it was, wanting to fall to his knees at the sight.
Nathan was pinned up to a wall, blood dripping from his nose and bruises forming on his arms. David was holding him by his throat, growling hurtful comments at him. It was a switch decision and Elliot was running after them, plowing into David and knocking him over. He climbed on top of him and started pounding him.
His hands were sore and bloody when the others pulled him off, taking both of his arms and holding them back as David stood up and knocked two punches to his chest, causing him to loose his breath, crumbling to the ground. His blood rushed in his ears as Nathan screamed for him, trying to get out of Luke's arms as they dragged him off.
Everything happened so fast and the next thing Elliot processed was being lifted up and carried to the school aquatic center. He could just hear Nathan screaming for him, crying his name. He wanted to fight and run to him but he just couldn't get away.
As the others pushed through the door, the heat and the smell of chlorine hit him once they passed into the deck. David dropp Elliot down and kept him on his knees as like shoved Nathan closer and close to the end of the deck.
"Stop! Stop!" Elliot screamed, squirming and struggling away. The others laughed and faked Nathan out, shoving him again. He was crying and shaking, obviously terrified. Elliot couldn't get up and couldn't help. He only saw the pure terror in his boyfriend's eyes. It broke his heart. "No!! Stop! Stop don't!" Ell pleaded. He watched the other slip over the edge, screaming as he plummeted towards the deep waters.
"No!" Elliot cried out, struggling again. Nathan was struggling and sinking fast.
David laughed, kicking him in the stomach as they ran out, leaving Elliot gasping for air, and Nathan sinking quickly.
Elliot caught his breath, looking over the water. It was too bubbly to see bellow the disturbed water but the moment he saw air bubbles float up and pop, he threw himself in.
It was a race against time to reach the sinking body. He felt pressure build until it hurt and his ears popped, Elliot's snagged the other's hands and pulled him up and up towards the surface. He hoisted Nathan on land and loomed over him. "Baby? Baby!?" He listened to the teen's chest. His heart was still beating, but just barley and he knew he was slipping fast.
He took to forcing air into his lungs, pumping his chest. He pounded and pounded, crying at his defeat. He took the other's pulse. He couldn't feel a thing but he refused to quit.
"One, two, three, breath."
"One, two, three, breath."
"One, two, three.... Nathan please..."Elliot held him in his arms, shaking him. He was heart broken and frustrated and scared, he'd just lost the love of his life.
When he there was a sputter and a sharp breath, Elliot looked down to Nathan, kissing his forehead while he coughed.
"E-Elliot?"
"Baby I'm here... I'm right here." He cried, pulling him into his arms. "I'm right here."
Nathan gripped his shoulders, crying again. His chest was shaking. He'd nearly died and it was the scariest thing in the world.
"I'm right here.. I'll always be right here." Elliot whispered and lifted him up, carrying him outside to sit on the curb.
They sat in silence for hours all until nightfall. The sky was a lush purple and the stars were glittering. Certainly not a night you'd expect a tragedy to happen, and certainly not one that had only just begun.
