Three Years Later
Elliot stood back stage before his interview, smiling and shaking off the nerves he felt. "You know, no matter what, I'm always nervous for these things!"
"Well this is very different from what you usually do, signing books and meeting your fans! I mean look at you. A famous author." The blonde girl laughed and brushed her hair back from he face
"You know Mandy.... You're the best manager I could've asked for and an even better friend." He smiled I to the mirror, fixing his tie. "How about dinner tonight after the signing?"
"Can't... Fiancé wants me to meet him at some party on upper-east-side." She shrugged and smiled softly. "It's very strange dating an actor."
"Yeah well what did you expect?" Elliot smiled and turned to her. "How do I look? Presentable?"
"You look wonderful." She giggled and brushed a fuzz off his shoulder before taking his arm and leading him out to the car. "You're brilliant, you know?" She asked once inside. "The best writer of our time!"
"Oh I'd hardly say that..." Elliot blushed a rubbed his neck.
Mandy fixed her hair. "I don't know where you get your inspiration! I mean six books in two years!? And this last one! It's amazing.... I just don't where you can up with the story."
Elliot but his lip and shrugged. "From experience."
"What's that suppose to mean?" Mandy scoffed. "Wait... Woah.,,"
The man looked up and fixed his tie. "Yep...."
"So... There's a real Adam?" She raised brow.
"There is but his name isn't Adam... It doesn't matter who he is- was... If you read the book you know I don't care anymore."
"That's bull." She said flatly
"It is not!"
"It is! Oh my god it's such a lie..." The woman laughed and threw her head back. "You wouldn't have gushed the way you did..."
"Mandy stop."
"I mean it!" She smirked. "You never focused in the bad... Oh god.. That's why you wear those high collars..." Se gasped and looked at him.
Elliot looked down and nodded. "High collars and long sleeves. Look I don't want to talk-"
"Whatever happened to him?"
"What?"
"Adam or whatever his name is... What happened to him."
He closed his eyes and sighed. "He spent the rest of his time trying to make it up to me... Trying to win me back and make me love him.... He started gay support groups and foundations."
"And?"
Elliot eyes her over. "And what!?"
"And did you ever see him again?"
He sighed. "No."
The girl pouted. "The last mistake..."
"It was never letting him back into my life." He whispered and picked at his cuffs. "Look. We are here." He grumbled and hurried out of the car inside.
Mandy watched him go and stood with him, heading inside to keep the crowd in order as he signed auto graphs and talked with his fans. By the end of the day, Elliot was exhausted.
"Can you get me a drink?" He asked and Mandy hurried off as he rested his head down.
"Excuse me..." A soft voice asked.
"In done signing autographs... I'm sorry but I'm closed." Elliot grumbled.
"Oh... Not even for an old friend?"
The man raised a brow and looked up. "Who..." That's when his eyes met those blue ones he'd longed to forget. The dark mess of hair and firm build. The man was aged but there was no denying who it was. "Nathan...."
He offered a nervous smile and swallowed. "Hey Elliot..."
"Wh-what are you doing here!?" Elliot stood, stumbling back much like the first time they met after the car crash.
"Woah! Woah calm down okay? I uhh.. I read your book... Books.. They are amazing."
His eyes widened and breath caught in his throat.
"My favorite was, 'My list of mistakes'. It's beautifully written and.. And the story is just amazing."
Elliot shook his head and closed his eyes. "You read it and you know I don't want you here. Leave."
"I will! I will... Just... I wanted to tell you I'm happy for you... How things turned out."
Elliot cracked his eyes open. "You are?"
"Yes of course." Nathan insisted. "I'm glad you used our story... I'm glad it was us...."
"Stop... You need to leave..." He whimpered and tried to hold everything back.
The man nodded and set the book down. "Okay... But can you sign this first?"
Elliot looked it over and sighed, flipping the cover open to the first page. His heart dropped but speared at the same time when he saw the small note written within.
'I love you... -Nathan'
He sniffled and looked up, meeting those old eyes before looking down and signing, slipping it back to him. "Thanks for coming. Have a nice day." Elliot whispered.
Nathan took the book and sighed, turning and walking away without another word. He flipped the book open and stopped dead in his tracks.
'I love you too. - Elliot Stark'
He dropped the book and turned around, running back at the blonde man and pulling him down just enough to press their lips together. In that moment everything that had been lost was slowly coming back and Elliot held the other close knowing that of all the mistakes he'd ever made, Nathan Acetarium wasn't one of them.
