"Hey, Captain. We have a word game for you to play" said Meg.

"A word game? I love word games, Meg. What do I have to do?" said Captain Feathersword.

"Well, we're gonna show you a picture of animals and you have to guess what animal the word says it is" said Meg.

"And then you want me to act the animal?" said the captain.

"You betcha, Captain. Now. What does this word say?" said Meg.

The captain looked at Meg's word picture.

"I'm not sure what that word says, Meg" he said.

"Well, try sounding out the word" said Meg.

The captain sounded out the word.

"D... O.... G. D-O-G.... Dog! It says dog, Meg" said the captain acting like a dog.

"Well done, captain. Now Sam's got one for you" said Meg.

The captain went to Sam.

"What's this word say, captain?" Sam said.

"I'll sound it out again just like last time. C... A... T. Cat! It says cat" said Captain Feathersword acting like a cat.

"Very good, cap'n. Now Charles Wallace has one for you" Sam said.

"Yeah. What's mine say?" said Charles Wallace.

"I know what yours says, Charles. I can tell by the way it looks. Kangaroo. It says kangaroo" said the captain.

He bounced like a kangaroo to where Calvin was.

"Cap'n, I have one for you now. What's it say?" said Calvin.

Sounding the word out wasn't really working.

"Sna-keh. Snack-eh. That's not right" said the captain.

"Use the picture to give you a clue" said Calvin.

"Well, that's a picture of a snake. Oh! It says snake!" said the captain.

"You bet!" said Calvin.

"Sometimes you can read by sounding words out" said Meg.

"Or by the way they look" said Sam.

"Or you could just look at a picture to read a word" said Charles Wallace.

"There are so many different ways to read words" said Calvin.
