The car turned off the highway. I couldn't believe that the time had finally come. I was going off to college. And I was so nervous about everything. Not knowing a single person there. Worrying about if I would make any friends, if my roommate was nice and everything else that could possibly go wrong.
«Thanks again for driving me» I turned to Matt and smiled. «This is much better than dad driving me and tearing up. You saw how he reacted when we left. Mom too. Imagine how they would react leaving me on campus. »
«Sure thing, baby sis. I'm going the same way anyway. Besides, now I am the one that gets to cry when I drop you off. » He flashed me a teasing smile.
«Don't you dare! » Matt laughter and stopped at the parking lot, and I realize we were her.
«Fine. My dorm isn't in your building anyway. » I opened the car door and jumped out. Wow, the campus seemed much bigger than I remembered. I could feel my pulse rising and I just stood there staring at the huge campus. The whole campus grounds were covered with green grass and big old trees. There was a big building in the middle with four towers. One in each corner. On each of the sides of the main building, there was a smaller building. The library was places behind the main building. I couldn't see it, but I knew it was there. That was the building I was most excited about. The library has one of the biggest collections in the country. I couldn't wait to read some of the historic editions it holds.
A loud bang shot me back to reality. Matt had closed the trunk. He had already emptied it and put my two suitcases beside me.
«So, off you go. I turned around and looked at him. Surprised about how serious he took my wish about no sappy goodbyes. I realized I didn't mean no goodbye at all.
«Okey then». I took a suitcase in each arm and was about to walk away. Then two big arms grabbed and hugged me.
«You didn't think I was going to let you of this easy»
«No, I didn't think that». I chucked. «Okey, that's enough now. » Matt hugged me even tighter, and then let me go.
«Well, I'll see you around». Matt said and I picked up my two suitcases again.
I then walked towards the main building. The campus was covered with people everywhere. People carrying bags, boxes and suitcases. Friends meeting again after the summer vacation and parents saying goodbye to their children. A lot of the parents were crying or at least tearing up. Now I was really grateful for Matt driving me. I made my way up the path pawed with gravel. The entrance was big. I stopped to admire the big brick entrance. There were two big doors with carvings on them. They were made of massive tree, and they must have been at least ten feet tall. Each door had a big door knocker off brass that was shaped like a lion. Once I entered those doors, I was officially a college student.
«Excuse me» I was ripped back to reality. Someone bumped into me as they rushed past me and in the doors. Realizing I was almost blocking the entrance, I walked inside. The hall in the other side of the front doors was just as spectacular as the exterior. The celling was high with chandeliers. The walls were covered with portraits and on the one side there was big wood counters with carvings. It was clear that the hall had history, just like the rest of the college. There were big lines at each of the counters. I looked around and saw that there was one counter for each year. On the counter closest to me it said «Senior», then next to it «Junior». On the other side of the room, it stood «Freshman». I walked past the lines connected to the other classes and stopped at the line for the freshman class. There was a guy standing in front of me who got his key, and then it was my turn.
