The graduation

The finals were all done, and summer break was finally a reality. Our English lit final was our last. Then we only had a day before Matt's graduation. That day was spent in practically a coma of lying-in bed and watching movies. Amelia had her flight that afternoon, so Jacob spent his time with her before he drove her to the airport.

When I woke up the next morning there was only time to eat some breakfast before I had to meet my parents at the parking lot.

«Hi honey» Mom said as she hugged me. I then hugged dad. «That's not what you are wearing at the ceremony. Right? » Mom scanned my outfit. I was wearing a pair of jeans and a blouse that I though was quite nice. I was actually considering wearing that, because I liked it, and I was definitely sure that Matt didn't care what I wore.

«No, of course not. » I shook my head to show I agreed with her. «I'm going back to my dorm room now to finish getting ready. I just wanted to meet you guys first. » I smiled.

«Why don't I join you. I haven't seen your dorm room». I don't know why, but that didn't really sound tempting. Maybe it is because it felt like my dorm room was a bit too personal. Like a safe haven. Or because she would probably have an opinion about what I should wear.

«Do you have time for that? » I said, trying to get out of it without making it clear to her. «Aren't you supposed to meet Matt before the ceremony? »

«Oh, just to delivering him his tie. I can do that. You two can go» Dad smile, trying to be helpful. Oh, naive dad. You have no idea what I was trying to do. Mom turned her attention back onto me. Smiling pleased. And I knew that I had lost the battle.

«Okey, let's go» I turned and walked towards my dorm room, mom walking beside me. Luckily for Ella, she had already gone home. As I unlocked the door, I took a deep breath to prepare myself for any comments. Surprisingly, they didn't come. Mom complimented me on how tidy I had it. I was leaving later that day for summer break, so maybe this was a perfect time to show mom my dorm room after all. She sat down quietly at my chair, as I tried to find something to wear. I picked out a couple of options, to show mom. All of which were pieces to were with my jeans. There was no chance in hell I was wearing a dress to this thing. Jens wedding later in the week was enough. I was sure that would contain at least a couple of different dresses. The pieces I had picked out was already placed in my suitcase, so they looked a little wrinkled. But hey, it's college. And besides, no one is going to pay attention to me. I'm not the one that is graduating. I held up two choices to mom so that she would get a chance to pick. That way I was safe within her expectations about what I should wear. She, of course, picked a white flower printed blouse she had bought me. When I had changed, it was time to head to the campus auditorium. Where the ceremony has held.

«You have really made yourself a nice room here» Mom said as I closed the door behind us.

«Thank mom». Her compliment was way more than I had expected. I had felt that she really was trying on the phone. And now I saw that with my own eyes. It seemed like our relationship had gotten better after I had gone to college. «Why don't you go meet dad and find us seats. And I will go get Jacob. »

«Good idea, Josefine» Mom agreed, and we parted ways once we had exited the building. I walked across campus and texted Jacob that I was on my way. He replied that he was ready. Just as I approached Jacob's building, he came out.

«Wow, new top, » he said as he saw me.

«No, technically not. I've had it in my closet all school year. » I responded as we started walking towards the auditorium.
